Magical medieval experience
May 2019 • Solo
Saw a review stating that the plants are very common and have outlandish names (like Tree of life) but that is its strength, showing medieval concepts using a garden. I went towards the end of May and found it well kept. A peaceful, travel back in time experience in a beautiful setting. Also check out the courtyards of the university.

Tranquil and enchanting
May 2019 • Couples
A beautiful peaceful if somewhat neglected garden , one part of which is based on a symbolic reading of the Bible. It represents the Garden of Eden. The other half ( it is not large) is the area where the monks grew medicinal herbs for their patients. The herbs are still grown and the labelled trees are very old. It was deserted and overgrown on a rainy day and quite enchanting. The walk there is also interesting as is the Basilica of St. Paul’s next door. Go on a weekday and catch a taxi back to the Centro because it is all uphill.

See the mediaeval garden
Jul 2018 • Couples
The botanical gardens can be reached via the mediaeval garden at San Pietro. It is good to compare the ancient and modern approaches to gardening.

Interesting, but somewhat neglected
Sep 2016 • Couples
Perhaps it was after a long summer break, but the garden had a somewhat neglected air. It was well designed, but little attempt had been made to hold back the weeds. It could have been really interesting, but seemed to lack a current purpose - apart from hosting a cafeteria for the students.

I would recommend it mostly for the setting.

It reminds me of the chateaus in France with medieval herb gardens but also of a university where I worked that was in an old palace that had a huge botanical garden. The setting of a chateau or palace was similar to these old buildings (cloisters I think) with gardens. One part has a nice view of the surrounding country side. We were there in March, when everything was still in bad shape. The gardens were basically just weed patches. Perhaps the gardens are nicer in spring and summer. Perhaps not even then. It’s a nice walk from there back into the old city.

Interesting spot

This is not a botanic garden in the general sense. It is a reconstructed mediaeval monastery garden. Depending on the time of year you visit it can be glowing or very dull. To get any sense of what it represents it is necessary to read labels and posters at the entrance. It is part of the university so it is only open on weekdays. It is part of the San Pietro complex so you should pop in if you are visiting the church. The university cafeteria serves good coffee.

I have visited many times in different seasons.

very average and disapointed
Jul 2015 • Couples
Botanic garden is really small, the access is incovinience becouse of several gates which some are closed. Garden is open from 8to 17 from Monday to Friday and the netrence is free. But there are no service or someone who can tell you, or who you can ask about plants, also collection is not impressive. There are no benches or any sitting area, so in the sunny days you just need to survive. I was disapointed becouse I counted for some nice flowers and to improve my knowledge - but it was imposible, some plants donot have any information about their names.
