Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very helpful guide and interestinf place. Did not make us feel obliged to buy the things in his shop. Rather was helpful in giving us tips on visiting gubbio

We encountered this huge barrel by accident. The staff at the store next door was super nice and invited us to take as many pictures as we wanted, free of charge. There is also a demonstration panel explaining that the barrel was disassembled and reassembled by the monks to be placed there (that's why there are Roman numerals, practically almost IKEA BC).

When you visit the Diocese's Museum you get to see this immense barrel which is quite fascinating. It makes the ideal setting of a picture to send to friends.

I do not get how this can be so high ranked. It is a bog barrel. That's it. It can be visited for free through a shop. Nothing special but it is a visit of 2min so...why not?

Not sure why this ranks so high. It’s a big old barrel. Nothing fantastic. I’d much rather spend my time looking at old churches and architecture

Next to a souvenir shop near the major museums. Not really recommended but a nice change. Cask was last filled decades ago.

An interesting big barrel, notable (according to the very helpful Francesco who was working in the shop alongside) for being only one of two large barrels in the world with bands made of wood, with this one being the largest and oldest. I'll take his word for that, I'm not into barrels enough to find out. The shop (manned by the aforementioned Francesco) was well stocked with reasonably priced touristy stuff (magnets, postcards and suchlike) and he also gave us a few much appreciated pointers on the best things to see in Gubbio. Thanks Francesco!

Located just down from the Palazzo Ducale is La Botte dei Canonini or the giant wine barrel. Behind a gate we could see a massive and slightly sagging wine barrel. Apparently it could hold 19,000 litres. It had been refilled twice in the 1910’s and had been restored in the 70’s. Attached to this was a surprisingly good gift store who had a very friendly attendant with a unique array of souvenirs and gifts.

I wouldn't particularly trek to the top of the Gubbio just to see Le Botte, but if you're in this part of time it's well worth the photo opportunity.
Access is free through the little gift shop.
You'll probably never see a bigger barrel.

I have seen photos of this but I wasn't ready for the actual size.
I know it's not the largest in the world but at 20 thousand litres it's not too bad, the canons who this was built for must have had a thirst.
