About
Since the year 2000, the permanent MARIA Exhibition by Guido Dettoni della Grazia is like a path to a wholly spiritual experience therein offered. The visual and tactile experience consists in the artwork MARIA, the enlarged TAU to be touched and embraced as well as the encounter with the Face of Christ available -upon request only- to be touched (not seen) in a hidden part of the churchnof Santa Maria delle Rose. * The exhibition reopens its doors on the first of June 2021. We wait for you!!!

Moving artistic experience.

This is well worth your time. There is someone there to tell you of the significance of the art installation which is both beautiful and highly symbolic. The Tao that is also now housed there is truly an icon. We were very moved by our visit. It is not large so it didn't take long.

Santa Maria delle Rose
Mar 2019 • Couples
This deconsecrated church, formerly known as Santa Maria Minore, now houses exhibitions of modern art. This building was originally built around 773 AD on a foundation of a Roman terrace. It was first documented in 1198. To the left of the church, beneath the bell gable, under the double vaulted arch is the side door. Around the door are many examples of medieval relief’s. The fresco, of the Madonna and Child, above the door is from the 12th century. We could not enter as it was closed on the day we visited, but the exterior is worth looking at in itself.

We called in to have a look at this interest exhibition which worth the walk, the art work of the carvings of Mary shown as a hand was very well done.

A must see

Whilst exploring the less travelled via's in Assisi we came across the church exhibiting the sculpture of the Madonna, and also smaller sculptures in various woods. The guide was extremely helpful and gave us a tour with explanations on how it came about and of the artist Juan Carlos Garcia. A very emotive exhibition

Amazing exhibition, very moving

I found this exhibition by chance and was amazed. Simple concept executed perfectly. The shape of the wood and other materials is filled with meaning no matter which way you hold or look at it. And the shape of the pieces fits so perfectly into your hand. Even if you are not religious I would highly recommend visiting this exhibition to marvel and the creative skill of the artist.

Spiritual welcome
Aug 2017 • Solo
The church is historic and prayerful. But currently it hosts a hugely moving and interesting collection of art devoted to Mary, Queen of Peace. Between alpha and omega, a collection of identically shaped sculptures describe the peace and love of Mary. A lady from the parish provides a simple but moving explanation in English. Behind the screen by the altar is a lovely large sculpture of St Francis' Tau. This is a remarkable and holy place - don't miss it.
