I just love it!
Aug 2020
A wonderful place, very unusual and full of stories and the past. My friend was able to tell me a lot about it and I am completely enchanted. Time and again I discover fantastic places in Assisi. I'm still totally excited. It's true, I've met my fate!

PAINTED VAULT
Mar 2019 • Couples
This vault area was originally a passageway that led to the city brothels. In 1453, a back wall was installed and transformed the passageway into a vault. The vault was painted, on the orders of Marcello Tuto, with humorous and bizarre frescoes. The Papal coat of arms belongs to Pope Paul IV. Volta Pinta is located under the Palazzo del Governatore.

Frescoed barrel vault
Apr 2019 • Couples
It is a richly frescoed barrel vault. Unfortunately the name of the artist is not known. The painting was performed in 1556. The frescoes represent mythological scenes, stories and even erotic allegories.

It is part of the Palazzo dei Priori. The ground floor of the palace is pierced by what was originally a thoroughfare that led to the city brothels. A back wall was built in 1453 for decency, forming an enclosed vaulted space.

Great little tratooria
May 2018
Simple food and nice ambience. This was just a couple of doors from our hotel and recommended. I think a lot of locals were there. The price was right, the house wine good and the dishes authentic. Enjoy

VOLTA PINTA
Mar 2018 • Couples
This vault is located on Piazza del Comune and is covered in 16th century fresco’s, of grotesque figures, legends and myths. In the center of the vault is a sculpture of 2 olive trees with human figures kissing. On the ceiling is the crest of Pope Paul IV. Worth stopping to gaze at the frescos and photo op.

FRESCO IN A VAULT
Jul 2017 • Couples
These fresco that decorate what was once part of the Palazzo and date from the mid16th century are tucked away in “vault” and provide a testament to the political climate found in Assisi during this period. The frescos are located across the piazza from the Temple of Minerva. A book by Ezio Genovesi covers these paintings.

Fine work of art...
Jan 2015 • Couples
A little attraction and quite unknown and not easy to find, tentatively is close to the famous church of Minerva placed in the center of the main square of the town. Not much to see, just a small medieval fresco, nothing more.
