A beautiful church for daily Mass
Aug 2019
Daily Mass was at 6:30pm, one of the latest in Assisi, and usually only has 5-10 people attending. It's a beautiful church for a quiet daily Mass. It's a small, but gorgeous church worth visiting.

Translates to New Church
Jul 2019 • Friends
This small church was built over the spot of St Francis home. Because they needed another church in Assisi. This one is simple and not overly decorated. But it’s significant because they put on display the room where St Francis was imprisoned as a boy. It would have been better to save and restore the home, but...

RENAISSANCE STYLE CHURCH
Mar 2019 • Couples
This church, built by the Franciscans, is on the supposed site of the birth house of St. Francis. Construction was started in 1615 and consecrated in 1691. Built in a Greek cross design, the Nave and transepts are the same size. Inside the church is the stairwell in which his father imprisoned St. Francis. Later released by his mother.
The steps behind the Cappella dell’Immacolata lead to the entrance of the family home.
If you ask the Friar on duty politely he may allow you to take photos.

Beautiful church
Apr 2019 • Couples
It was built in 1615 on the site of the presumed birthplace of St. Francis, the house of Pietro di Bernardone. It was then called Chiesa Nuova because it was the last church to be built in Assisi at that time.

It is in the late Renaissance style and features a high dome divided in coffers, with lantern and a drum. Such a caisson ceiling is a feature of Renaissance architecture. The plan is a Greek cross one, with nave and transepts of the same length. This was inspired by the church of Sant'Eligio degli Orefici in Rome, one of the few churches designed and built by Raphael.

The church is decorated with frescoes by Cesare Sermei and Giacomo Giorgetti from the 17th century.

You can see the stairwell where Francis was imprisoned by his father.

Beautiful little church
Mar 2019 • Couples
This small church is covered with Frescos to view on the life of S. Francis. It's very quiet and much less visited than the other churches in Assisi.
Great for meditation.

Homely, gentle quiet
Sep 2018 • Couples
This is not a big tourist attractions, it is just the kind of church I love. Simple, beautiful, homely. It is a place I would use to contemplate and just BE. Restrictions are minimal and just what one would expect in a church anyway.

Pretty Little Church
Oct 2017 • Solo
This sweet little church was built in 1615 on the site where St. Francis was said to have been born.

Inside the church, beautiful frescoes adorn the upper walls. Just outside of the church, a statue depicting St. Francis' parents is on display.

If you have a just a few minutes to spare, it is worthwhile to go inside. It is a lovely little church.

Worth seeing
May 2018 • Couples
On my way back to where we were parked, I wanted to stop to see one other church I had seen that was close to the Temple of Minerva. It was the Chiesa Nuova. This church was built over the birthplace of St. Francis, his original home in 1615. The statue in the courtyard is of St. Francis' parents.

This is one of the few churches designed and built by the famous artist, Raphael. It is a very pretty small church. Perhaps the most interesting item in the church is the under the staircase area where St. Francis was imprisoned by his father for not behaving like he wanted him to. St. Francis wanted to care for the needy rather than act like an aristocrat. It is a very small room with a statue of Francis in it.

NEW CHURCH
Mar 2018 • Couples
Chiesa Nuova is built above the site that is considered the paternal home of St. Francis. It was so named, as at the time it was built it was the newest church in Assisi. It was erected in the early 17th century and built in a Renaissance style. The altar is placed over the room of St. Frances. Located just one block off Piazza del Comune.
