Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is worth the hike and the ticket to see how they lived and to get to the very top. You can see both sides of the mountain and a special art installation of olive trees in a grove called "Third Paradise" from above. You can feel how guards may have been stationed and see both the slots for shooting arrows or pouring out hot liquids on attackers. Inside a very narrow spiral staircase leads to museum displays of ancient life in picture and floating floors still allow a sense of the majesty of the space.

Short walk through about 170 steps from a small alley and we reached this ancient medieval fort. View was spectacular and you can get a awesome beautiful view of the Assisi town and the Basilica.

Just hiked up to the fort today, hoping to catch the sunset. We got to the entrance of the fort at around 4:15 but it was already closed. As mentioned in some other reviews though, even if you don’t enter the fort, the view is absolutely gorgeous, not only of Assisi but of the hills of Umbria. Highly recommended and offers a pleasant change from only exploring the historical town side of Assisi.

It is a climb up to the fort, but the views make it worthwhile. The fort itself is ok- not much to see inside, save a few weapons and suits of armor. Do be aware that to reach the top you ascend a small spiral staircase. It makes coming and going a bit of a challenge, but you do get a great feel for what life was like inside the walls.

From the Rocca, you have a great view of Assisi, especially of the Basilico di San Francesco. You can also go into the Rocca, but we did not, as we have seen many castles in many countries and they are quite similar, espcially the ones that were built primaritly for their strategoc location / for military purposes. If you don't have much time you can afford to skip this one.

We had been to Assisi 13 years ago and found this castle then. No company owned it and we found it open and walked to the the very tallest turret for the view. This time a company owns it and they charge 6 Euro to go inside. Only a small portion of the castle is now open to visitors but you can still walk up to one of the other turrets for the amazing view. Not the tallest one but you still get the view!

Let me start by saying I did this hike in sandals. There is slight grade but nothing too severe. I think there is a road that allows cars to park at the base of the fortress but we took the walking path.

It was shaded most of the way by buildings or the overhanging olive tree branches. Lovely and quiet. It was not very crowded on the trail compared to the massive amounts of tourists at the church and in the town proper. Was worth the time to have such great views and a little quiet time.

Assisi is amazing!
But the Rocca, at the top of this so suggestive city, is the height of beauty.
The nights are so warm with a breeze that feels like a caress.

This night is the night of shooting stars, but I'm happy, I can't wish for more ...

It was well worth the climb up through the town to get to Rocca Maggiore. It was amazing how far into the distance we could see from the top and we were able to get a good photo looking down onto the Basilica of San Francesco
