The Basilica di Santa Chiara was built between 1257 and 1265 ain Gothic style.
The church is named after Santa Chiara, a friend and protégée of Franciscus. She has founded the Poor Women of San Damiano, an order that today has thousands of members.

The Chapel in which hangs the crucifix from St Damiano is the most extraordinary place. It is possible to feel transported back in time to when the Poor Clare’s meditated befor this cross. The church is beautiful but the Chapel is deeply spiritual.
