Mystic place
Aug 2020 • Family
One of the most mystic places in Assisi. It's one of those places in which you forget to be in a very touristic place but in the centre of the catholic religion. A place to pray, to observe, to think...in silence.

Fascinating
Dec 2019
This is the place to go in Assisi in my opinion. The buildings are beautiful and the architecture is impressive - but the reason all of it is here is buried in this place. A must see. A great sense of peace and reverence will envelop you if you let it.

Inevitable Reflection
Nov 2019
It´s a holy place and it´s impossible to not stop for a reflection. I would suggest to visit this place when it´s calm and with few people. When you think about who San Francesco was and how he lived you want to have a peaceful moment and reflect. The problem is that even with signs and lots of messages asking people to not take pictures and respect place, you will still find those who has no idea on what is respect. It´s still a holy place and if you can´t separate on your heart the commercial exploitation going on on the city with San Francesco person you will have very good feelings.

Spend time at the tomb of St Francis
Dec 2019
Several flights of stairs to descend and later ascend before you are in the spiritual centre of Assisi where St Francis is buried along with some of his early friars from the 13th century

Patron Saint of Animals

St. Francis' crypt is a quiet and moving place. If you desire there is a priest/brother present to offer a personal prayer for you. This is located directly beneath the alter in the basilica.

A must see!

If you are there you must go downstairs and see the crypt. Again a very solemn place. Stop and say a prayer to St Francis

Visiting the crypt of St. Francis and his four faithful followers and some of the relics of St. Claire is very moving. A definite must see!

Moving Experience!
Aug 2019
Seeing the final resting place of St. Francis was very moving. It is a simple tomb for a simple man. But being in the space with him was simply awe-inspiring. The entire town of Assisi is amazing - it's like walking back in time.

No photos allowed but worth the visit. The entire town and complex all are inspiring and each piece fits into the history of the community.
