Just pass-by before heading up to the Basilica
Aug 2020
You can just pass-by on your way-up to the Basilica or to the Cathedral - interesting water fountain - really feel like putting your feet into it, especially when the weather is hot :)

Nice old fountain
Oct 2019
Very old medieval fountain in a nice and quiet part of Siena with three gothic arches. It was originally much larger than today's version. Here you are able to form an idea how things used to be in the past. There were a drinking tank for men and a sepearate one for animals. The fountain was also used to wash clothes. My daughter (five years old) was especially delighted that there were colorful fish swimming around here.

Interesting fountain in a quiet area
Oct 2019
If you stroll down Fontebranda from Via di Citta you'll come across this interesting medieval fountain in a quiet area. It's reputedly the oldest fountain in Siena and was even mentioned by Dante in the 'Inferno'. Don't be put off by the steep streep down because just across the road from the fountain is a series of escalators that will take you back to the top!

Defiant water source
Sep 2019 • Family
We passed this imposing historic fresh water fountain in Siena.

A massive building with crystal clear water and several fish.

A 13 cent fountain!
Jul 2019 • Couples
Hard to appreciate that in those early times water could be brought via stone channels, drop into a tank and the public have access. Its size allowed multiple use by people, animals and businesses. Hence the Guild of Woolmakers involvement.

Loved it@
Jul 2019
This was located directed behind our hotel and it was so interesting. There were lots of people there when we visited. The children especially enjoyed the fish and feeding them.

A glimpse at medieval Siena
Apr 2019 • Couples
You can just imagine women gathering here to wash the household's dirty linens and exchange all that juicy gossip. Beautiful arches, lovely green clear water... and the flash of colour of big carp swimming in the cool depths.

A nice side site
Apr 2019 • Friends
This was a very beautiful site that is not on the typical tourist trail. It's an ancient fountain built in the 1300s. Our guide said that St. Catherine's family lived in the area and were cloth dyers.

Beautiful Gothic fountain

An impressive fortified medieval fountain, built in the Gothic style and one of the many beautiful dotting the town. It is situated on one of the lower parts of the city.
