See the palazzo, but be sure to go to a concert
Jul 2019
The music at the Chigiana is not to be missed on any trip to Siena. Concerts are usually very affordable--from 5 to 25 euro. The concert hall is so intimate that you breathe the music with the musicians. The eight young, superb cellists I saw in July played music ranging from Bach to 20th Century composers and every period in between. It was marvelous to experience the different styles of music and musicians. I also saw a stripped down (no sets, minimal costuming) of Paisiello's Barber of Seville, in the small theater in Siena's town hall. The vigor and enthusiasm of the young, gifted singers made this some of the best opera I have seen. Grand halls and the Verona arena are one thing, but I prefer the up close and personal experience of the Siena production. You can go in the courtyard for free and enjoy light fare at the cafe. In the summer, on many evenings, at 7, in the courtyard, there are free half hour performances given by students at the institute. Delightful. Be sure to enjoy the music at Chigiana.

In a courtyard between the Campo and the Duomo is this charming house used as a music venue. Drinks and food are served in the outdoor cafe.

Unexpected treat
Apr 2019 • Couples
The Palazzo Chigi Saracini houses the Academy of Music in a beautiful old palazzo. We have attended excellent chamber concerts there but had never taken the tour of the rooms originally lived in by the Chigi family. Multilingual Anna, the librarian of the music library, took us through the family rooms which house many works of art and fine old musical instruments. It was well worth the 7 Euros. There is now a coffee shop in the Palazzo so you can enjoy a cappuccino in the lovely courtyard!

The beginning of the construction was in the 12 century, with a special tin tower ( battlements), a window star of Siena, a beauty of the city; It's the seat of the Musical Accademica; In the palace is
also a great bibliotek, much paintings, and a baroque concert hall.

Absolutely amazing
Feb 2019 • Couples
Without a doubt, this is one of the must-see palazzos in Siena. My wife and I are so glad we decided to visit the Accademia Musicale and highly recommend it. The only way to visit is by guided tour which is included in the reasonable 7€ admission. We were guided by Barbara, an Accademia staff member, who is friendly, professional and, most importantly, incredibly knowledgeable about the palazzo and its history. The Accademia which is not only a music school and theater but an amazing museum. Some reviews only mention the cafe, gift shop and courtyard but the real jewel is the palazzo itself. Take the time (approximately 1hour) and don’t miss this palazzo when in Siena.

There is a cafe in this little courtyard off of the Via di Citta but you can pop in just for a look at the arched area and well.

There is also a gift shop with unusual musical gifts.

Music!

This lovely palazzo is the seat of the one of the finest music conservatories in Europe, and you can hear superb students at practice while you admire the medieval architecture. It's on the main street up from the Campo, so it's easy just to drop in and have a look.

Gorgeous buliding

Another gorgeous building on Via di Città between Piazza del Campo and the Cathedral.

Even if you are just passing and haven't organised a tour, as we were, it's worth having a look at the exterior and the inner courtyard, both beautiful.

A Hidden Gem! A must-see in Siena
Nov 2017 • Couples
I've been to Siena many times and knew this was a music school, but I wasn't aware that one could actually visit the inside via guided tour. My husband and I paid a meager 7 euro each for a FABULOUS experience. Our guide, Anna, was wonderful- extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This museum houses thousands of beautiful treasures including the pianoforte owned by Franz Liszt and the world's oldest harpsichord.
