City Gate

This was our entry point into the historic centre of sienna, stepping from the modern world into the medieval heart of the city.

We were walking and found this gem by accident. Everythinf about Siena is magical. Look closely at the construction to appreciate the crafmanship.

One of the remaining and most important gates in the 13th century fortifications of Siena, although has been rebuilt.
Jul 2017 • Couples
The original gate was built in the 13th century but was destroyed during the siege of Siena in the mid 16th century. The current gate consisting of one large arch and two smaller arches, one either side, was built in the later half of the 16th century. The main gate has the Medici coat of arms above it.

This gate was one of the most important as it was a defence on the main road north to Florence and therefore saw much action in the defence of Siena against the forces from Florence.

I would agree with others though that this is not a must see.

This city gate looks like a part of medieval town fortifications. As mentioned by other reviewers there's nothing interesting.

Nothing special, but you pass it when you go from the trainstation to the center of town
Apr 2016 • Couples
I've seen many city gates and this one is nothing that impressed me much in any way. This one was one of the least interesting gates I have ever seen.. That is why I didn't even bother to take a picture. Siena is a nice town with a lot of interesting and beautiful things to see, but this is not one of those.

Boring. It is that we needed to pass it anyway, but if it is not on your way, you don't miss a thing. Can be skipped surely not a must see.

No big deal

This was not so special, there are prettier things to see in Siena. Go further ahead to the city center.
