Large and empty
Oct 2019
This review is more about the somewhat weird experience to enter the church rather than the church itself. You enter a giant hall which was almost completely dark the day I visited. There were no people inside either. This combined made my exerience a little bit scary. There is a nice glass window inside, almost the only source of daylight there is. There are also some paintings in the church from some old Florentine and Sienese masters but it's hard for me to judge them because of the scarce light. Although the church is large and feels a bit empty, a visit is recommended because of the tranquility found here. There is also a branch of the Univeristy of Siena next to the church and a nice couryard to stroll around.

Huge
Apr 2019 • Couples
If you park in San Francesco Parking the escalator deposits you close to this massive building. If you visit after the cathedral you will be taken aback by the lack of decoration and the open space (few chairs/pews). This just makes it a more intriguing visit. Quite spectacular on the quiet (we were the only people visible inside.

Gothic church
Feb 2018 • Friends
One of the most important churches in Siena, it is built in the typical Gothic style and dates to the 14th century. It sits in a nice location with views over the city.

Home of the Holy Hosts
Sep 2018 • Couples
This basilica is known for the presence of the Holy Hosts that are kept here and are still physically incorrupt since 1730. The Eucharistic miracle of Siena offers us the chance to witness Christ’s presence and his love even today. Very touching.

The first attraction you hit upon your arrival to Sienna. Definitely worth some time to visit. Good landmark to meet others

Sad history
Sep 2018 • Friends
The church was built in the first half of the 13th century in Romanesque style, but it was enlarged in the 15th century and turned into a big Gothic building. It is an interesting design, based on the Egyptian cross plan with a nave covered by spans and a transept. It has a sad history as it was destroyed by fire in the 17th century and rebuilt in a fake-Gothic style in the early 20th century. Don’t be fooled by its interior's simple look, there are many important artworks on display here, mostly from the Sienese school of the 15th century.

Just a Basilic in Siena, nothing special both inside or out.

After seeing the Cathedral of Siena this was a bit of a disapointment. Nothing special. Both the inside and outside are boring compared to a lot of other Basilicums and Churches.

This church is huge and it is basically empty. A pitched timber roof is interesting. Not to much stained glass but several very large paintings.

Definitely worth a visit

Restorative Experience
May 2018 • Couples
A tranquil spiritual experience augmented by the lack of visitor crowds and street noise. A church for prayer and personal reflection not only a museum although many of the frescoes, art and stained glass are of museum quality and in themselves worth a visit. We felt restored and replenished after our visit to this church. A special interlude in our lengthy trip to Italy.
