The cathedral itself is incredible and worth a visit, but more so, it has incredibly cool history and you should have some understanding in advance of the visit or what you are looking at is or it will feel meaningless. Otherwise take a guided tour....More
Beautiful cathedral and take your time seeing this gem in the city center of Siena! They even allow cameras as long as no flash or tripods! Stunning artwork, frescos, marble designs! Be sure to visit museum across from it too.

The floors were completely open to view (although not walk on) when we were there last week (4-10 Sep)... even if the floors can’t be seen, which would be a shame, it’s worth going for the beautiful al fresco and paintings. The ticket also includes climbing up the Facciatone which is the incomplete extension of the Duomo complex. It gives you stunning views around the city and surrounding area!
