The Campo was rather deserted when we visited it late November. There were quite a lot of restaurants and touristy gift shops open for business, but few customers. The buildings surrounding the Campo were interesting to see, but we did not spend more than a few minutes walking around. There is a huge flight of stone stairs to climb to... More

Great plaza - perfect for people watching. In Rick Steves' book, he notes that he has never seen a piazza where the people sit around on the ground like they were at the beach. It's true! of course it's mostly the younger people that do that. Even in November.

Drinking my morning coffee in the ancient Piazza del Campo was like a dream. Looking out taking in the sloping warm bricks, the people walking about, the history of this magical place was a favorite moment of mine.

On the sunny day in October when we visited, hundreds of folks of all ages lounged on the wonderful ancient bricks that fill the Piazza. The multi-colored buildings surrounding del Campo framed it perfectly. A breath-taking experience on a very short visit to Siena.

The Piazza is very unique and special as it is in a circular shape with the buildings around the edges and a square in the middle- hard to explain unless you see it. In August they have the Palio horse races around the Piazza and I can imagine it would be exciting to see- we missed it as we visited... More

Great for people watching, lovely fountain, don't be coerced into eating at the restaurants around the piazza, there are much better hidden on the little streets.

This is the center of old town and is a beautifully shaped sloping piazza. In 1983 our 2 year old would race around chasing the pigeons and there are still kids doing that today. You catch a glimpse of it as you approach on the parallel ring streets and will you descend to the piazza level it is a beautiful... More

Del Campo is our main reason for visiting Sienna. As expected, not the best restaurants on the piazza. But very near you could find nice places to eat.

Beautiful, breathtaking spot. Besides the beauty of Piazza, there are some good placesto grab a meal or drink. Had a wonderful minestrone soup.
