St. Catherine passed a large part of her life inside the walls of this stupendous Basilica, which was one of the first to be dedicated to St. Dominic. It was begun by the Dominicans in 1226 on the hill of Camporegio which they had received as a gift from the Malavolti family. Most of the actual rectangular nave and the inside roof with its tranverse beams, all in Gothic Cistercian style, go back to this epoch.

I can never get over the fascination folks have with old body parts. If you want to the finger and head of a St. Catherine. , this is your place

Just gets boring after a while. Stained Glass is cool and so is the view just outside. The way leading to it has many nice shops.

We were totally wonderstruck to find the remains of St Catherine here including her relics. The high ceilings and simple interiors only help in the aura of piety here.

The stained glass windows of Basilica di San Domenico are wonderful The central window is modern and vibrant with colour with the sun shining through, flanked on each side by windows in muted blues. The rose window at the opposite end is also modern. Rather...More

Saint Catherine of Siena, Mystic and Saint lived in the nearby building Casa di Saint Catherine. The San Domenico Basilica is where a few the Saint's relics are on view.

The Basilica di San Domenico is a beautiful church in the heart of Siena. The altar is amazing, the building is massive, and the artwork is beautiful. The stand-out part, however, is the side altar containing the head of St. Catherine of Siena in a...More

The family house of Saint Catherine is nearby, and this is the church she went to where she had her original visions and inspiration. The highlight is probably the ornate Chapel of Saint Catherine with its beautiful artwork and relics. Can’t see them up close,...More

Yes, odd title, but her history makes this church an interesting site. Her home is not far from here, and the story is compelling.

Have you ever wondered how a head and a finger look like after a few hundred years, being naturally preserved? Probably not, but you're gonna find out!

Pretty amazing that the actual head of this incredible saint is located in the Basilica. It is so cool to see such relics and to be in the very city and space where she lived and walked so long ago. This church has many lovely...More
