Quite Agriturismo outside of San Gimignano
May 2019 • Couples
We stayed at Fattoria Voltrona for two nights. Although the grounds of Fattoria Voltrona were beautiful and during the daytime very relaxing, sleeping was pretty uncomfortable. Ate dinner one of the nights, very affordable and food was pretty good. San Gimignano was about a 10 minute drive or an 1.5 walk (would not recommend walking)

Do you want to “Tolt”?
Apr 2018 • Couples
So of course where else would you ride Icelandic horses but Italy! We decided that we want to have an unusual experience when we visited Italy this time it’s on my wife found this fantastic place that had Icelandic horses. The guide was Swedish. Is this sounding international already?

The Icelandic horse has a special gate they’re only a few horses in the world can do. It’s called Tolt. YouTube it! And you’ll see what we are all talking about. It’s an amazing gate that is so smooth. But it is a very strange gate because you’re kicking the horse and reining it in all at the same time. Unlike a trot or Cantor or a gallop the Tolt Keeps the rider almost to exactly level while the horse does all the work. And what a wonderful way to enjoy this new gate but in the hills of Tuscany learning about underground caves for wine and all the states that are crumbling on the hilltops and Fortune is being made in the nearby towns.

A Hidden Gem
Sep 2017 • Couples
Out for a drive from San Gimignano for wine tasting and lunch and was referred to Voltrona. Hidden a short distance down a dirt road, this wonder property is nestled on a hillside with commanding views over Tuscan country side. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and sampled some local wines on the terrace - wonderful. Certainly on our list to return to and to stay as the accommodation looks wonderful too.

Late lunch in Tuscan style
Aug 2016
We stayed at a guest house close to this wine farm and stopped in here for a late lunch. Food was authentic and fresh and wine fantastic!

Authentic Tuscan farm very close to San Gemignano
Jun 2015
The land is so beautiful here. They have fruit orchards and olive orchards they work. Their Icelandic ponies were a hoot to ride along the high ridges of the countryside. Family style meals at community tables makes for nice conversation, we met all kinds of interesting people. The rooms are clean and pretty, the pool was refreshing. If you go late in summer, it may be really hot, not sure if they have AC or not.

Beautiful property, very nice stay
Oct 2015
My husband and I stayed here during the second leg of a week-long trip to Tuscany (our first stay was in Volterra). Agriturismo Fattoria Voltrona is in a great location just outside of San Gimignano, which was one of our favorite old medieval towns we visited in Tuscany (climb to the top of the tower there for a breathtaking view). The agriturismo was very well-run and had friendly and helpful staff. Their grounds were really beautiful and fun to explore, and our room with a balcony had a lovely view of the property. We would have liked to ride one of their Icelandic horses, but they are booked months and months in advance so we weren't able to make that happen. The restaurant was pretty good as well. Our only complaint was that it didn't feel like a true agriturismo in that it was a bit more touristy and hotel-like, but we still very much enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful destination!
Mar 2014
My husband and I make annual trips to Italy and were delighted with our stay at Fattoria Voltrana. We had our 12 year old son and would encourage this destination for either families or for romance. Our accommodations were quite charming and comfortable and our hosts made us feel like part of the family. The food and breakfasts were amazing!! It was also very easy to take day trips.

Wonderful time in the heart of Tuscany
Oct 2012 • Couples
Voltrona is a beautiful agriturismo, very well located between Siena and Florence just a few miles from San Gimignano. The owners are very nice and cordial and speak English well. The food is amazing, as is the the wine they make on the farm. The accommodations are basic but nice, spacious, and clean, the view from our window was like an amazing Italian painting with olive grows, cypress trees, and scattered medieval buildings as far as the eye could see, and the whole experience of being there felt very authentic and relaxing. We traveled all around - the towns of Volterra, Cortona, and Moteriggioni are all a short drive away. The agriturismo also offers icelandic horse rides in the area and a vespa you could rent for a really fun drive on the winding Tuscan roads. Highly recommend this agriturismo to anyone who wants a relaxing and authentic Tuscan experience.
