Small but beautifully formed

You can get a little jaded over yet another church in Catholic Europe but this is very old and on the way to the font from the museum of modern art/archaeology so no hardship.

Check opening times

It was closed but a poster said it is open set hours on Sundays. Looks very over restored externally but I would have liked to have seen inside.

Unique little spot

Unique little church to find. We wandered outside of the typical San Gimignano tourist area and found this unique building with tall walls around it. We wish we could've gone in, but even the outside area was a cute little church discovery.

Worth the walk for the views, but the (apparently) much renovated Templar church was closed, with no opening times displayed. Check with Tourist Info before you wander out that way.

Little gem
Jul 2013 • Couples
We have tried on many of our visits to gain access to this little Templar church. Finally this year we managed to get in and immediately you are transported back to the 11th century. Sit on the old wooden pews and Look closely at the worm frescos and the little niches in the walls, imagine the history that has passed through these doors. for once the doors are closed who would know what lies behind.

Smaller than we expected
Jul 2011 • Couples
The Church of San Jacopo is right at the edge of the historic center of town and unfortunately wasn't open so we couldn't see inside. We were surprised at how small it was but it was fascinating to think that it was a Templar church.

Not as marvelous as reported by others
It was fine, but more of a modern apartment than a cozy, tastefully restored place. True, there is antique furniture but walls and floor and other touches detract from atmosphere. Two difficulties: it is not very well signed and was not so easy to find--a 10 minute uphill walk from the train station. Also, communication difficulties--the owner does not speak English and was reachable only by cell phone. There is no one on the premises to let you in--you have to call her and wait for her to come.
