This place is very interesting since there is a type of cemetery. There aren't crosses, only plaques on the ground with names, dates, sculptures and various information. It is a great place to relax and meditate since it is very quiet place.
The Piazza dei Miracoli is also known as Piazza del Duomo (and it is a walled 8.87 hectare area where you can find the Pisa Cathedral, Baptistry, the Bell Tower (Leaning Tower) and old cemetery.
It's super packed during days but if you come towards...More
This piazza includes the tower, Duomo and Baptistery along with the bishops residence. The entire area is enclosed by walls and you have to go through the gate to get in. Lots of lawn space that is fenced for better photos.
Paranoid about getting a traffic ticket from driving too close to the Square of Miracles; we parked our rental car far away in a paid lot near the Arno River that required a long walk to this world famous attraction. It’s off season so there...More

Not sure about tickets but I can talk about driving in Pisa. And my advice is: don't. Leave your car at your hotel and take a taxi. It isn't a big place but it has narrow mediaeval streets, little in the way of parking spaces, and a one way system designed to confuse foreigners.
It's also hot and humid so your mum might find it a challenge to walk far. Younger members of the party will probably find it easy to walk. It's a small and flat city.
