Me and my parents bought a ticket to see three different places and this was one of them. The other ones were Guinigi Tower and Orto Botanico di Lucca. For us three it cost 24 euros.

If you were to bought this same ticket as us, I’d recommend to choose between this and Guinigi Tower. They were pretty similar (but just as cool) and I felt pretty dumb climbing up such amount of stairs just to see the same thing I saw minutes ago.

You can skip Orto Botanico and choose between this and the other tower, that’s what I recommend. You save money and you don’t lose anything worth seeing!

Views and interesting facts
Jul 2019 • Couples
Climbing the tower was on my list of things to do in Lucca and it didn't disappoint! Entry is 5 euros, or a combi-ticket 9 euros which includes the Torre Guinigi (the one with the trees) and the Orto Botanico (Botanical Gardens) and is valid for 2 days.
On the climb there are boards displaying the history of the tower, and other towers in Lucca and information regarding the clock. The stairs are very substantial and it's a relatively easy climb. The clock strikes on the hour and every quarter, so remember that if you are at the top at that time.
Fabulous views, well worth the climb

A great way to burn off those extra gelato calories

There is little that has not been said about Lucca and its multiple attractions but thought i would drop this in. We hesitated a bit before paying the 5 euro each to climb the tower particularly with my metal knee but , what the heck .Made it to the top and wow!! Fantastic views and not a hard climb at all even when 30+ in the shade .

Well Worth a Few Steps
Jun 2019
We climbed this tower straight after the Guinigi tower and it’s hard to pick a favourite. The steps in this one are narrower and this makes it hotter on a hot day and more likely that you will have to pause and let someone pass - but that gives you the chance for a surreptitious “breather” if you need one. And the fact that you are surrounded by good solid brick almost all the way up might make it preferable for someone who really doesn’t like the slightly more exposed feeling at the top section of the Guinigi.

As many others have noted, the 🔔 is LOUD if you are next to when it rings but fine if you are a little way below. On our day it was ringing every quarter hour so we timed our “summiting “ accordingly.

If you only do one tower I would say do this one to get the view of the Guinigi and it’s trees. But then again, standing under those trees is special too. OK, I can’t decide; if you can, do both.

The Bells & Views of Lucca!
May 2019 • Couples
Climbing bell towers is a must in Italy! Like the Campanile in Florence, you must climb the 14th-century Torre delle Ore in Lucca!

During the climb, you can see a collection of vintage tools used within the tower and the old workings of an earlier clock. You'll get some great photos and a little exercise in the process!

It's the other great viewing point of Lucca and worth the ear-rattling experience of the bells as they ring on the quarter hour.

Ciao!

Great views and interesting history

Stairs are east to navigate and you get a view of the clock gears/weights on the way to the top. Informational plaques along the climb explain the history and maintenance of the tower throughout history. You stand under the huge chiming bells when you reach the top and they may ding in you are there at the correct time. The panoramic views of Lucca are fantastic!

Do both towers!

It really is worth your time to do both towers! But watch out for the chimes! They are _really_ loud, and I almost dropped my phone over the edge when they rang!

Fantastic clock tower in narrow streets

Lovely town and this tower is very pretty. Also a marvel at how they had a hand winding mechanism in the 13th Century.

Great views

Plus you can see the internal mechanism of the clock. I happened to be heading down when the bells started ringing! Thank goodness. Not crowded like the Torre Guinigi with the same view except you will see the Torre Guinigi from up high!

Great view and interesting visit
Sep 2018 • Couples
The highest tower in the medieval Lucca was acquired by the local government in the 15th century to house the public clock. It is open for visiting and you can admire the mechanism of the clock and enjoy the beautiful views over the city.
