Arch bridge across the River Arno
Sep 2019
The Ponte alle Grazie is one of the first bridges across the River Arno that we encountered on our tour of the lovely city of Florence. It was the third bridge built across the River Arno and provides lovely views of the more famous Ponte Vecchio. If you happen to be in Florence during sunrise or sunset, you could get some spectacular photos of the Arno as well as the Ponte Vecchio.

Nature in two steps from the city center and Ponte Vecchio!
Sep 2018 • Friends
A traveler before me characterized this bridge as a perfect spot for birdwatching. Well, I should say it’s 100% true! We crossed the Arno over Ponte alle Grazie several days in a row at the very end of September: in the evening, just before the sunset, you could feel yourself in a kind of small natural reserve rather then in two steps from the busy city center. One evening we counted 8 (!) herons, grey and white, in the shallows under the bridge. And there was another surprise waiting for us: we saw a beaver swimming right in the middle of the river towards the nearby shrubbery on the lower bank! And guess what! When we return to Ponte alle Grazie next day roughly at the same time, the beaver was there again! So, if you want to have a nice pause after a tiring sightseeing day, that would be a great spot to observe nature right in the heart of the city!

Best birdwatching spot in Florence!
Sep 2018 • Couples
My husband and I discovered, accidentally, that Ponte alle Grazie is the perfect place to do a bit of birdwatching if you're a keen birder (as we are) and happen to be in Florence. There is a weir beneath the bridge that is frequented by many different species of heron - we saw little and great egrets, grey, night and squacco herons. Looking east from the bridge, on the south bank of the Arno, there is the Terzo Giardino, which is a haven for warblers and finches of all kinds. We also saw nuthatches and treecreepers in the Boboli Gardens.

Your pics will look better than the real thing in daylight.

During the day time and with the river water down, the river is rather dirty and un-inspiring. The famous artist from before must have a good imagination ;-)

Amazing views

We walked to the bridge and watched the sunset. Absolutely amazing over the river Arno. You can also see people fishing in the water and boats out with people. It is beautiful.

1st BRIDGE UPRIVER FROM VECCHIO
Mar 2018 • Couples
Where the Ponte alle Grazie now crosses the Arno, is the location of the oldest bridge to cross the river. It was constructed in 1227, but has had to be rebuilt numerous times and has been renamed many times. The current bridge was constructed mid 20th century and is made of concrete and has really no architectural beauty. Its main claim to fame is the great vantage point for photos of Ponte Vecchio.

Next bridge after the famous Ponte Vecchio
Feb 2017 • Solo
Having visited Piazzale Michelangelo, I crossed this bridge on the way back heading to the Uffizi Gallery.

The view east over the sand banks was unexpected, I enjoyed seeing some dogs down there having an off leash romp.

One of a Series of Traffic Bridges Across The Arno

Crossed the bridge numerous time when returning from Florence back to our Hotel at the Villa Cora. From a pedestrian perspective, it allows for views over the Arno to the Ponte Vecchio.

Yet another bridge!
May 2017 • Couples
Ponte alle Grazie is yet another bridge on the Arno River, with a bit of WWII history. The retreating German Troops destroyed the bridge which had existed for hundreds of years, since about the 13th century! A new bridge on the same spot was reconstructed in the 1950s. This bridge is now quite famous and offers another good spot for visitors to admire Ponte Vecchio, and other bridges, as well as taking some photos of the magnificent landscape all around!
