The area

Neighbourhood: Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.

The art, architecture, and history of this famous dome is a wondrous achievement, built by Brunelleschi and able to be viewed by us.

Choose between The Dome and The Tower
Jun 2021 • Couples
Fantastic view once you are at the top! In my opinion, after visiting both, The Tower and The Dome are offering the same view.

I would choose The Dome and skip The Tower.

Great visit especially at sunset

Do not miss it and try to book at sunset time when the City is covering itself with Gold. Book on internet prior to your arrival.

A must do as long as you are fit
Sep 2020 • Couples
Booked online for just €20, the climb up is quite something, lots of steps, but worth it for the view from the top. You get time on the inner balcony where you can see all the paintings on the roof and look down on the cathedral below, time for photos of the view from the outer lower balcony and then another couple of flights of steps to the top and the bells. The journey down over the dome is slightly scary but all in all a very worthwhile experience, loved it, felt like an achievement

Needs to be cleaned
Sep 2020 • Couples
Beautiful building from the outside, would be even more beautiful if the facade was cleaned once in a while. You may have a beautiful view from the top of the cupola, but I would also recommend to enjoy the view from another spot too where you will have the view with the Duomo (e.g.piazzale Michelangelo).

Great views, horrible organization and expensive.
Sep 2020 • Couples
Let’s start with the cupola itself. It’s beautiful and the views are amazing. The climb is doable for any fit person. Sadly the organization selling the tickets, guiding the people etc. Are 90% grumpy people that treat tourists with disdain. Tickets used to be €20 for all Duomo attractions, now you can only buy separate tickets for each. Just climbing up and down the cupola will already set you back €20, then you still need tickets for the bell tower, the museum, and the baptisterium. There are better ways to spend your money in Florence. But the cathedral itself is beautiful!!

Fantasic views
Sep 2020
The climb up to the dome of the Duomo should definitely be on any visitors itinerary when in Florence. We booked tickets in advance from the Duomo website which were timed and cost €20 each. This website gives you all the available slots on any particular day and you just choose which one you want then print off your tickets or save to your phone. We arrived 10 minutes early which I think is worth it so you get in the queue first, this was you get to the top before the crowds start arriving behind you. For any relatively fit and healthy person the climb up is pretty easy. You also get to see the amazing frescos on the interior of the dome up close on your way up and back down. Once at the top you’re treated to spectacular 360 degree views over Florence and some fantastic photo opportunities. This is not to be missed.

Super beautiful ..entry reservation
Jan 2020 • Solo
Super beautiful and unique Cupola, which is the dome for Duomo. On the day I was there I tried to enter the dome but was disappointed to learn not even pay on entry was entertained. You must book in advance to be able to access the dome. My only other alternative was to admire its beauty from the outside. I would have preferred to get the view from its tower because I heard its spectacular.
So for those wanting to visit and enter please make your reservation in advance, otherwise you would not be able to enter.

Fantastic View - Don't Miss It - Reservations MANDATORY
Jun 2019
The view from the dome is spectacular. Don't miss it. But if you have not reserved a climb in advance go to the tourist office on the other side of the Plaza and make a reservation. Do this the very first thing you do in Florence. If you can't get a reservation, try for the Palazzo Vecchio or the Campinle climbs. Getting a high view of Florence is spectacular.
