The small square in front of the Basilica di San Marco is one of the usual meeting points for groups of tourists, which often makes it very crowded. The square is not big, and, beside the basilica and the museum, there is not much to...More

One of the historic piazzas with the stone faced San Marco church as its main feature this square needs some money spent on it to make it more of a jewel

This square is very small. There is a beautiful statue in its center, some pew benches and only this! What I thought strange is the fact that there weren't trees in this square. Because of that, it doesn't attracts me.

Would not recommend this piazza to visit. It was a meeting forums for a lot of tours and lots of cars driving around. Nothing special and plenty of other places to visit

The only real reason to come here is to visit the San Marco church or pass through on your way to somewhere else. Not a pretty place, lots of traffic, buses and people. Not a restful place.

Piazza di San Marco is not much to look at. It has in its center a statue of General Fanti and numerous benches to relax on. It is also a major transportation hub for busses. The square is dominated by the Basilica di San Marco...More

Many people rated this square highly and added pictures - they usually mean for the Venitian square. While the Florentine one is centrally located (near the Academia and the San Marco Museum), I must say it fails to impress - there's actually nothing to see...More

Piazza San Marco is a very bysy open place right in the center of Florence. But like most other places in this city it is an interesting place with charm.

A block north of the incredible Accademia Galleria (the world-class museum that houses Michelangelo’s original 1501 ‘David’ sculpture) is this unimpressive city plaza/square. In the center is the Monument to General Manfredo Fanti, a soldier and leader for Italian independence and unification. The statue was...More

I found this piazza way too crowded and busy. Constant busses and cars shoulder to shoulder tourists heading to the Academia museum. Yuck Miss it unless you have to pass through going someplace

The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a
stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence,
surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking
students provides the tranquil surroundings for the
elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read
the daily newspaper. Home to several universities,
including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one
of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A
