My hotel was around this area so I walked past here frequently. If it was not for the fact that my hotel was so close, I am not sure if I would have spent time here as there is not too much to do.

I walked through on my own without a guide and enjoyed it very much. The architecture, paintings and overall design are gorgeous. Recommend staying at the Santa Maria Novella Hotel just across the piazza. .

The beautiful square in front of the Santa Maria Novella church was established in the 13th century during its renovation. The square immediately became the open-air theatre for tournaments, contests and other festivities. It is still used for that purpose and it is the main...More

Florence is so wonderful in art and architecture and just beauty. Like most of Italy, it's getting crowded, all year round. But there are still sections you can roam into that are not as mobbed with tourist. Like Venice, it's easy to walk in and...More

Lovely square to just sit and enjoy the evening. Perfect place for people watching. The gelataria at the corner adds to the charm!

There are not many places one can sit and rest, this square has lots of benches all around the perimeter and there are toilets nearby. 1 euro is unfortunately the going price for toilets in lots of places, including gas stations, so always have change...More

We enjoyed sitting in this piazza - it's a good place to people-watch. The obelisks at each end are the markers for the chariot races that were held here centuries ago. Obviously, you can see (yet another) marble church facade. There are WCs just to...More

Every evening we stayed at our hotel (right on the Piazza), there were local musicians playing in front of the church, and some of them were quite good. It was nice to sit out enjoying a sorbetto, listening to music, watching children play in the...More
