This fascinating natural history collection can be traced back to the Medici family. Full of taxidermied animals of all types, skeletons and wax anatomical models, it is a must for the curious, as well as science and history lovers.

Definitely not one of the main attractions people visit Florence for. If you’re into doing things off the beaten path and coming back with a great story to share with friends, include La Specola in your trip itinerary. There will be those who go because...More

We visited La Specola specifically to view the wax Anatomical Models One should check opening times for this museum, as not open all day. Cost for entry was 9 Euro each and this also included the tour to see the wax models. To fill time...More

Very cool place. Lots of preserved specimens. They have some very interesting history as well. A little confusing to find the museum once you get to the building ( go up the stairs!). 100% worth it.

It’s a creepy, bizarre, musty old museum But it’s really interesting! Like a really old version of the “bodies” exhibit.

Old-ish museum with tons of animals and minerals on display. Price is fair to what they have to offer, though there isn't much information about animals outside of their names so you'll mostly just be looking at them. Taxidermy is mostly questionable at best with...More

It’s dated and gallery after gallery of stuffed animals and birds is the kind of presentation most museums have moved away from. But you came for the wax models right? Since 2017 you must reserve a tour to see them and tours are limited to...More

The zoology displays are great fun in vintage style but the star is the wax creations used for medical training. Total wow, get there early to book limited spaces. Fascinating.
