Maria's work is second to none when looking for ceramics in Italy. Her style is clearly above and beyond all the rest and each piece is a work of art. Near the Duomo in Florence, she is convenient to all travelers. Go visit her! You will not be disappointed. So many great pieces that it is hard to choose.

Some friends and I went to this store and were amazed by the scenes painted on the many different kitchenware items in the shop. The artist was super friendly and helpful too!

I've been coming to visit this shop since 1999. It is definitely the nicest ceramics in Florence if not Italy. She remembers us each time and we always go home with a few pieces which offer a continual reminder of our wonderful stay in Italy. I have pieces that are 17 years old and look new!

We first met Maria in 1999 and purchased two beautiful serving dishes. The quality is outstanding and the artistry is beautiful. We just returned to Florence for vacation and she is still creating masterpieces. We purchase 3 more pieces that are new designs but complement the pieces we purchased almost 20 years ago! We are so happy to see Maria... More

My wife had seen the TripAdvisor write up about M. G. Design, so we walked to the shop on a lovely March afternoon. My wife is a potter, so I have been to many studios over the years. This was one of the very best I have seen for the hand painted pottery, and I still feel the very pleasant... More

This is a delightful small shop in the centre of Florence. The proprietor is charming and will happily show you round her available ceramic stock. If you want a painted design made specially for you then all you have to do is discuss it with her. However, there are many wonderful unique designs to choose from already in the shop.... More

Maria Giovanna is an excellent artist! She hand paints works of table-top art that are functional as well as beautiful. We chose the "fig" pattern Bowl which is delicately painted to perfection. She is personable and spends time with each customer.

It was such a pleasure to stop in and meet Maria and see her beautiful shop. Gorgeous works of art cover every inch of the place. There is so much to see and each piece is unique. What an amazing artist! Take a little piece or Florence home with you!

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
