Palazzo della Signoria, better known as Palazzo Vecchio, has been the symbol of the civic power of Florence for over seven centuries. Among the works of art safeguarded in the museum: the Cortile di Michelozzo; Michelangelo’s celebrated Victory in the Salone dei Cinquecento; Donatello’s Judith in the Sala dei Gigli; the private rooms of the Medici court and among these the marvellous Cappella di Eleonora, the chapel with paintings by Agnolo Bronzino.

A movie buff would recognise this from Dan Browns Inferno. The great room is something special, as are the statues (one was quite disturbing, check photos). A worthwhile visit while in Florence

It is a little overwhelming with history but I really enjoyed it. I only wish I could see the detail in all of the paintings that Vasari and his assistants painted on the ceiling in The Grand Hall of 500.

We were please to find that this museum was not nearly as crowded as its Venetian equivalent (the Doge's palace). You can visit not just the major state rooms from the time that it served as the centre of government for the Florentine state, but...More

Despite the big queues for the Uffizi next door this palace was surprisingly quiet . Ground floor is free to enter and has some nice pieces if you dont have time for museum on upper floors

Are you a fan of Inferno? If yes, than go and visit.é If not, then go and visit. Vasari's frescoes are unbelievable.

Every visitor coming to Florence for the first time
will immediately identify with Uffizi. As in past
times, passing through Via dei Calzaiuoli, you can
reach the city center, the Florence that everybody
dreams of. In just a few steps, visitors can
experience the rare beauty of the capital of the
Renaissance. walking delighted across Palazzo Vecchio
and overlooking Piazza della Signoria, up to the
