It was packed because the locals can visit the sights for free on the 1st Sunday of the Month. However, we were able to wander all over Florence and still see many of the sights. Like the Basilica di Santa Croce, Ponte Vechhio Musuem, Palazzo Pitti, etc.

This square is one of the most visited squares in Europe. It is also called the "Cathedral Square". Lots of important monuments are located here. Also many cafes & shops are located in this area. Be cautious when the place is crowded , as advised by our our guide, as there are lots of pick pockets. A must see.

We didn't queue up for the dome as it seemed like it would take hours, but simply seeing the intricacies on the exterior of the buildings was impressive enough.

Anyone coming to Florence must visit this area. This piazza consists of the Cathedral/Duomo, Bapistry, and Clock Tower. There are many cafes and restaurants all around and there is always something going on. Just walking around and marveling at the architecture and the masterpieces surrounding this area is breathtaking.

The Duomo in Florence, Italy is certainly a must see-The cathedral, bell tower and other sights within this extraordinary church are incredible. All around the Duomo, there are cafes, shops and many other sights are a short walk from this area.

Piazza del Duomo is located in the historic center of Florence. It is probably one of the most visited tourist attractions in Italy. Within a short distance you have the Duomo, the Baptistery of St. John, the Accademia Gallery and the Bell Tower. The piazza is a hive of activity. The architecture of the buildings surrounding the piazza is magnificent.... More

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Duomo
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
