When we were in Florence a few years ago it was closed for repairs. When we had a 1 1/2 day stop in Florence this was the first place I wanted to visit. There was no line and we walked right in. It was worth...More
Very ornate church/monastery, with a statue of Dante Aleghieri looking down at you on the outside. A very good couple of hours' stroll around. Cloisters, illustrations galore, very famous people buried inside.
This is one of the most beautiful and the historic location of graves of some of the most famous names of 500 years ago. We lined up for its opening thinking we may miss the opportunity to get in otherwise.
This church has graves of many famous Italians, including Galileo, DaVinci, Michelangelo, Machiavelli and 800 year old works of art. We had no wait to get in. Not being Catholic, our interest was historical only. Be sure to dress appropriately. There are signs indicating what...More

Santa Croce is a beautiful church with a gothic marble facade. It houses the tombs of Galileo and Michelangelo. The high alter is spectacular. Many of many chapels are beautiful. I would definitely recommend a stop here.
Tombs of Galileo, Michelangelo, FDAnte, Rossini, Machiavelli, Marconi, and Fermi are confined within this Church. The Chapel is by Brunelleschi, the Fresco by Giotto. This church is well worth a visit. The Piazza surrounding the Church has many good restaurants.
The architecture, the art, what to say? Florence's treasures are unending. Santa Croce is another must see, just like the San Lorenzo complex. It's all just magnificent. In the Church of Santa Croce, you will also see the tombs of Michelangelo, Machiavelli, and Galileo. We...More
Stop and stare at the beauty and symmetry of the Basilica of Santa Croce any time day or night. Unraveling around it are a number of architectural and artistic masterpieces, from the Synagogue to the Central National Library. As a hub for young people, the area gets busy with people who want to have fun: a continuous flow of tourists and locals become animated by songs and dances.
