Beautiful setting for this cathedral, perched on a Tuscan hilltop. The story of Santa Margherita is very interesting also.

A Loretto exposure, good, but brief visit
Oct 2019 • Friends
This little town is ripe with local and live music when we explored. The old townhall and vibrant community square was fun and full of people. The church is the jewel of the downtown, and worthy of a prayer and say thanks.
The natural covered and shaded promenade made the visit extremely enjoyable. The area at large was hustling and warranted a walk around. A must do and see.

Kevin & Jane’s afternoon exploring
Aug 2019 • Couples
We went for a wander around the town, up and down the many passages and lanes. We came across this lovey large church with lots of history, containing various religious artefacts and relics from saints. An interesting place to visit.

You never think how much you can climb up, when you decide to go to Basilica di Santa Margherita, but it is worth the effort.
During the way up, you will see plenty of vitraux which anticipate what is expecting us once you walk into this beautiful cathedral.

Tough climb but worth it for the tranquility
Jul 2019 • Couples
We walked up from the main centre of Cortona. A very steep tough climb. The last section is particularly hard as it is very uneven. If you have elderly folk or young kids it is best to drive up. There is ample parking.
A wonderful basilica to Santa Margherita stands in lovely gardens and the views are breathtaking. Her mummified body lies at the alter and the cross that spoke to her is one the right hand side. A colourful church and a very peaceful atmosphere. After the church walk around the side of the church to enjoy the views, keep going through the wooden doors signed Belvedere vista panoramica. The views of the lake and the land below are breathtaking incredible.
Enjoy.

Uplifting
Jun 2019 • Friends
We were spiritually uplifted to learn of St. Marguerita, to pray in the presence of her corpse, to see how well tended this Basilica is by her Sisters is, and to note the obvious daisies honoring her name. Such a view of Cortona from this height astonished us.

Out of the way, but worth the stop

This basilica does not have the glory it once had, but you may be the only visitors, which gives it a special feel. Imagine the history it has seen, enjoy the views inside and outside.

The inside is more impressive than the outside
May 2019 • Friends
Climbing up to the church is a steep climb from downtown Cortona. The path is lined with Stations of the Cross, artistic renditions.
The facade is very plain with some ornamentation. The inside is really magnificent, with a unique mural of WWI's Italian battles.
