While we were in Cortona there was a photography exhibit at the Fortezza di Girifalco. We bought tickets and explored every nook and cranny of the castle that we could get to. We were able to walk about the top of the walls around the back courtyard - lots of fun and incredible views! Not sure what the access is... More

We paid 5€ each in order to access the fortress expecting some info or something to see. All the rooms are empty, there is only one walkable wall and nothing more. Yes, views from top are nice, but you have same views from the road. Not worth the ticket price imho.

Just a short walk uphill from Santa Margheritas church you will find amazing views and history. There is a little bistro up there that looked nice.

We doubted a moment to pay the entrance fee (6€ for adults), but it was certainly worth it. The Fort is quite big and you can access almost everything. The kids loved running around in it. The views are by far the best of all Cortona. You can access it by car or walk to it from Basilica Santa Margherita... More

The Fortezza is built on the top of the mountain overlooking the valley below. Spend some time on the edge of the S. Margherita bastion to admire the breathtaking view from Lake Trasimeno to Mount Amiata. The place hosts art and photography exhibitions that are worth looking at. There is also a small bistrot where you can have some good... More

One of the best sights for tourists. The views are breathtaking and and if you can tear your eyes away then the signs are informative and the history is fascinating. Keep your phone on, you'll get a total thirst for wanting to know more and more of the history. Make sure you travel all the way to the top and... More

I thought I would be able to touch the sky if I climbed any higher :) The highest point in Cortona, so all the good reason to build a Fortezza there. We walked up to it after we visited the St. Margherita church. We thought, we might as well go all the way to the top. There was some art... More

Breathtaking views for miles around Cortona! If you didn't bring your camera, despair. If you did, pack lunch, because you'll be clicking for quite some time. The fortress itself is an impressive mass of concrete walls designed for fortification which history proved to be unnecessary. However, its worth the visit.

The Fort is above the the town of Cortona and a good 15- 20 min walk, all up hill, and steep. However if you take your time to admire your surroundings as you go, it is no hardship, especially as you are rewarded with such wonderful views of the Tuscan plains north and south. The Fort was wonderful to explore,... More
