We parked at the bottom of Cortona and started our walk to the top for the Fortress, it was a steep climb with many stairs but the reward of the views and feeling above everyone else is worth it, sadly a thunderstorm and torrential rain...More

High atop the hill of Cortona stands the Medici's fort. We walked up from the town, passed Chiesa Santa Margherita and found the Fortezza del Girifalco. Even though there is parking, it was well worth the walk up.

Worth visiting to get the amazing views from the fortress. Take some photos looking out toward the lake. Little cafe up top does spritz, wine or cafe.

It was quite the trek in flip flops, but it was worth it! It's all about the view - but the Fortezza has interesting aspects to it as well. Since it is far from the city center, there aren't as many people and you can...More

Great menu with local wines (AND local beer!), and incredible service from the staff. We climbed from the amphitheater down at the "bottom" of the hill town of Cortona, and were in need of a good rest. The fortress has rotating art exhibits, and spectacular...More

It is on the very top of the hill so if you are walking don't do it at midday! The view upon the Valdichiana is amazing and you can see the lake and Umbria as well!

It's a lovely walk up but there but actually very little to see within the Fortress. All the rooms are empty. I was surprised they have not added some items of the period for interest. There are a few informations boards but most are written...More
