I'm not a religious person, but this is a place to visit. Impressive to see the small cell used by Franciscus. It is also a nice walk from Cortona (4.5km) with some beautiful views of the valley. Don't take the Sp34 main road, but a...More

Le Celle is a monastery started by St Francis d'Assisi in 13th century. It's a short drive from the main town of Cortona so well worth a detour

This is such an iconic place that stays with you - the serenity, the impressive location and sheer impossibility of such a large and old set of building in such a remote and impossible-to-build place is incredible.

This is an incredible place. The monastery is built into the hill and surrounded by a beautiful forest and rock waterfall. An ideal place to take a quiet, contemplative walk.

I've spent 2 summer vacations in Cortona & made time during my last trip to Le Celle. It's quite a special place easily accessible by car. I don't recommend walking unless you're looking for a workout. Once you arrive, parking is easy and the "cells"...More

We were the only non-residents on the morning we visited. We walked through the public areas and had a nice dose of nature on one of the trails in the adjacent forest.

A nice easy walk with little climbing. The celle itself is really picturesque and there's a few little churches that you can go into. If you've time and want a peaceful walk out of Cortona town one morning I would recommend this. It's about an...More

A little out of Cortona and I would have loved to have found the walk there from the town. We drove, no problems parking even though it was a Sunday so there were people attending a church service. The building itself is very pretty and...More

You can walk to the north of the town, go out the wall and follow Strada Provinciale 34 - but please keep an eye of coming and going cars. The road will come to split at a point after about 15-20 minutes, then you follow... More
