Can you say "VIEWS"
Sep 2019
I think you can see all the way to Rome from here....just kidding..but it is a magnificent panorama at least back to Montepulciano.

Overlook

Beautiful overlook right at the start of town. View was better at the end of the day when some of the haze burned off. You can see the lake off in the distance

The square is just above the central parking place at the entrance of the city and that is the reason why we usually start our exploring of the city from here. The locals still call the square by its older name, Piazza Carbonaia, because the coal producers were selling their goods at this spot. After enjoying the perfect view of the Valdichiana valley and Lake Trasimeno, you can proceed to the main street, Via Nazionale, which is the only perfectly flat street in the city, with no gradient.

Peaceful day out
Jul 2018 • Friends
There is a monument to garibaldi in middle of the piazza which looks magnificent and stands looking out over the beautiful countryside of Italy. The piazza is a great place to just sit and relax while taking it all in. Great place to go to get a feel for the traditional Italian life style just sit back and enjoy.

Cortona can be very crowded during the season. Parking outside the city can be limited,go early or later. Excellent shopping and restaurants ,delightfull narrow streets a photographers paradise.

Didn't Realise it was There
Sep 2017
My friend and I set out to visit Piazza Garibaldi on a recent visit and although we did find it and take some photos there we didn't realise that that was were we were.

It could do with signposting a little better, as the significance of the square is too easy to miss.

The views from the area are amazing.

Lovely piazza to sit and look out over the Tuscan countryside
Sep 2017 • Family
Arriving late in the evening, Cortona was still well alive at around 6pm and parking is free after around 8pm on the hill just below the town. After a short walk up into Cortona there's some great clothing and local produce shops (rather than touristy souvenir shops). There's a load of bars and restaurants around the piazza that seemed popular with the locals too into the evening. Seemed to come alive at night!

Good sandwich spot

Very shady at mid day. Lots of benches and bins. Nice vista with the plain spread out below you. There's some car parking if you can't walk up the hill

Great piazza for photo op shots but go to Della Reppublica if you want a great place to sit and people watch and have fun activities.

Lively at night
Jun 2017 • Couples
We walked through during the day and it wasn't very crowded but at night.....just hopping with activity. Kiosks were set up with varying merchandise, actors in medieval costumes were displaying their craft and then.... soccer! Seemed the whole town turned out and tvs were everywhere. Fun vibe.
