Once the Medici Villas in and around Florence were brought together under UNESCO heritage management the Villa Demidoff (its C19 name) has been the subject of restoration and improvement, still underway. Now a poor imitation of a C18 English Park, the original C16 water-animated garden...More

I was visiting this park to see the Colossus and it certainly did not disappoint. The statue is huge and overlooks a lake with water lilies. Only a short distance from Florence, we made the stop on our way to Bologna and glad we did.

This is a very impressive sculpture of stone and brick created in 1579-80--open to the public on weekends and holidays--free entrance and parking. The villa is not open to the public, however. There is a snack bar and restrooms on site, and on a beautiful...More

I highly recommend getting out of the crazy tourist filled Florence city center and take the bus (only 30 minutes from San Marco) or better yet take a motorbike to see this park. The park is large and we were one of maybe 10 people...More

Irresposable ! We went there and was closed. The page had not alerts about supposed maintenance jobs. The schedule at the main door indicated that must be opened to Public....I strongly recommend double check (with a phone call) because it is frequent in Italy.

For my family, one of the goals of traveling is to try to experience what someone who lives there experiences. Timing can be a constraint when taking this approach, but it is also good to remember that even the most dedicated tourists sometimes need to...More

Only in Italy, would something so wonderful, be tucked away in a park only open 3 days a week with no advertising. The Colossus of the Appenines is just jaw dropping, a massive statue, carved out of rock, or initially commissioned by the one of...More

IF you have a spare morning --or afternoon, you could indeed take a bus(or drive!) just 20minutes out of Firenze, where the Tuscan hills are cooler (the Medici's certainly knew all about that!), but the original Medici Compound ...& indeed the park concept...has been SO...More
