The painting is in poor condition, hung in the wrong church, and there are far too many tour guides bleating away all day long with noisy and ignorant groups. Sorry, this is art as tourism, selfie-opportunity and it's just wrong. Not one the members of...More

As good as the San Giovanni catacombes but quite hard to find and three of the four sections were closed. I think three needed stablising for visitors so wasn't that dissappointed. Giude was great and the section we could see was very interesting

The church of Santa Lucia is a three-aisled column basilica from the 12th century. It was erected in the place where St. Lucia, the patron saint of Syracuse, suffered martyrdom instead of a predecessor of the 6th century. The windowsrose on the west side as...More

Pay your homage to St. Lucia, view the Caravaggio painting, see a somewhat austere church. Don't go out of your way.

Walking back from the theatres via the Santuario we 'found' this wonderful church with the huge piazza in front - we could not stay for the catacombs and they were preparing the church with flowers for a wedding. What a building though.

This site should be better visited. It houses the oldest catacombs in sicily but the catacombs of san giovanni are larger and the san giovanni site houses the oldest christian worship site in sicily. The two are must sees. The kairos leaflet picked up from...More

Today I had the tour guide to myself which was lovely. We went first to the small octagonal baroque church where Saint Lucia was buried at one point (her poor body got 'kidnapped' on a couple of occasions by other rulers so this is not...More

After the cathedral, it's tempting not to bother... but please do. This church is beautiful it it's own right.

Closed, no information about when it would be open. It had the same problem that many of the churches in the town have: there's no information available about the opening hours.
