Simply the best attraction in Syracuse, bar none (and so much better than the half-closed Neapolis ten minutes away). The catacombs are just amazing, the guide is knowledgeable and informative (in English and Italian) and I challenge anyone not to feel moved by the sheer scale of the catacombs, carved out of rock, tunnels stretching into the dark in every... We did not realise just what was underground. When we bought our tickets we were told we had to have the guided tour something we usually shy away from. However if we had not had a guide I think we would still be there trying to find our way out. This place is vast and so well preserved. Our guide... More

Been a couple of week since I visited the Catacombs. You need to dig a little to find them as they're hidden in the midst of new building complexes. The tours are very well organised and occur at sensible intervals. The guide was young but professional and ready to answer questions. Well worth the price and an experience for young... More

I was truly awestruck and overwhelmed by walking through this very extensive network of beautifully lit tunnels. Although all the niches are now empty of bodies, tombs and sarcophagi, and there are just few faded paintings, the experience of walking through these galleries is simply spellbinding. The guide was very informative, first in Italian and then in good English, with... More

Intricate network of catacombs - an underground 'town' cut into the rocks. Make sure you take the tour - very interesting

loved this and highly recommend this. The guided tour was very good in illustrating the various tombs, inscriptions and paintings.

We saved €3 each by showing our Duomo entrance tickets. We were told we would only be allowed down with a guide and once underground we understood why. There are so many tunnels going off in various directions you could easily get lost! The fellow tourists on our tour were from a variety of countries but luckily for us our... More

Well conducted tour. Make sure you check timings if want in own language. Best catacombs been in. Takes about 30 minutes.

My husband and I visited the Catacombs without a guide but I think it would have been a much more informative experience with an english speaking guide. That said it was still very interesting and would recommend a visit when in syracuse.

There is a tour about a half hour long that is very informative. It's a worthwhile quick stop in Siracusa. Not the largest catacombs I've been in, and fyi you can't take pictures in the catacombs, but I enjoyed the visit. Would give it 3.5 stars.
