Not a great fan of baroque, but Sicilian baroque is quite marvelous and Casa Professa is a great example! The pietra dura is amazing--definitely worth a visit.

The most incredible and ornate church I have seen in my life. Add to your ‘must sees” and just go ! The frescos with bright colors are one of a kind!

Palermo has a number of luxuriously decorated churches, and Gesu is one of the best examples on the grandest scale, with amazing details on every inch of the surface, marble, plaster, frescoes, stone, columns, organs, etc. You could probably spend a week here if you want to appreciate every one of those details!

It is beautiful baroque church. It’s worth a quick lookie, if you have time. If not, skip. It’s located in the Ballaro area.

This is a wonder for your eyes. The best place to admire the Baroque style. Even if you are not a fan of the style, it is impossible not to love it!

I finished 'The Leopard' just before setting off for Sicily, so I was keen to see this church for that reason (it is the 'Mother Church' for the family priest).

The church is incredibly ornate and it was a nice little mini adventure wandering through some of the back streets to find it.

During our trip to Southern Italy and Sicily, we went to visit many churches in the cities and towns we visited. Palermo was our last stop on the trip and since my wife and me, as well as the other couple of friends who were with us love churches very much, we were delighted by the variety of churches which awaits us in Palermo. On our first day in Palermo, right after we got our rooms in the hotel, we went on a familiarity and orientation tour with our location.
Immediately after leaving the hotel we discovered to our right a church which at first glance looked pretty miserable on the outside and without any special signs that would hint at the “SURPRISE” awaiting us inside.
The interior of the church was in one word “AMAZING” and in two words “MOST AMAZING”.
Plenty of sculptures, frescoes, and walls with stunning beauty coatings.
And everything seems to be just “Out of the package”.
A magnificent amazing church.
NOT 2 B MISSED.

Right in the middle of Balaro District, in the Historical Center Of Palermo, stands the Chiesa Del Gesu.
In a sea of churches, that old Palermo has, this one seems no different from all the others; rather plain on the outside.

...but if you walk in, a magnificent showcase of frescos and sculptures lies in front of you.
A well preserved museum of late Renaissance eclesiastical art.
Don't miss it.

Do not let the bland exterior for you. The interior of this magnificent church is astonishing and more so knowing that was heavily damaged during the war and rebuilt.
