Special church
Sep 2021
This was a very wonderful find. We have visited several churches here and found this to be a beautiful place. The walls and the art was nice, learning about the nuns and the history of this house of God was amazing g.

Delightful church
Oct 2019
This was a chance find on the way to the main cathedral and like so many Italian churches, it was well worth putting a head round the door. The usual stunning art is in this place whilst it remains reverant and subtle at the same time.

My Grandma's Church - St. Rita
Oct 2014 • Family
This was the thing we wanted to see most in Palermo - my father is Sicilian. My grandparents were both born in Palermo, and my grandmother's childhood church was 'St. Rita's'. She had a special devotion to her and even named one of my aunts after her.

It took us awhile to figure out which church she meant, as I was never able to find a church called 'St. Rita's' in Palermo. Eventually we solved the history - this church (St. Augustine) is locally referred to as 'St. Rita's', because of the locals' special devotion to her, and the shrine devoted to her.

It is a lovely church - the pictures will demonstrate this more than I can! There's also a serene rose garden/courtyard attached, and a shrine to St. Rita where we lit a candle for my grandmother.

Once we found Maqueda street, this was not too hard to find. However, we did have a bit of an experience getting there - the sign of the 102 route had Maqueda and S. Agostino listed as a stop at Piazza Lennon (where we got on - we were staying nearby). However, the bus never went this way, (other signs for the 102 downtown did not contain this stop). This caused some confusion and we ended up staying on the 102 until we got to the last stop (the Stazione Centrale) and walking from there.
