rather plain church, one out of a dozen, but in a room you can find an interesting Bacon-esque painting

The cloister makes this different to other chuirches in Alghero. However, there is nothing really special or ornamentally breathtaking about the church interior. So to pay for being able to see it, other than admiring the quite old ceiling an parts, is a bit typical.
The hotel should be an experience, but the actual visit is nothing special.

We caught the end of mass on the evening of All Souls Day on 1st November. The church was full of locals, young and old and there was a very special atmosphere. The altar is stunning with some beautiful art lining the sides of the church.

This small church with tiny cloister, beautiful art and lovely altar is worth the fee. The locals look after it and are reaaly pleased when someone visits.

We paid 4 euro each for entrance into all parts of this church.
We had a guide take a small group of us up the bell tower. You are not allowed to go up on your own, and you have to wear the provided hard hat (though I am not sure why they believe it is necessary!). You have to climb the stairs to get to the top, but it is not very arduous. There are good views over Alghero from the top of the bell tower and it is worth the climb.
There are cloisters, which are quite pleasant, but not up to expectations for us, having seen many better cloister examples elsewhere in the world.
The crypt is small. The church has some interesting detail.
An interesting visit and worth taking a look at this church when in Alghero.
There is a hotel which has access out to the cloisters - I imagine this would be a nice place to stay!

This is the smallest of the 3 principal churches with the old town. You need to plan ahead as the church has limited opening hours. The most impressive thing about the church is the interior cloisters which are atmospheric.

This church came as a jewel in an otherwise not very beautiful town. Very silent and with interesting religious art. A gem in what was in the olden days a poor fishing village.

Certain churches are a landmark and this is Alghero’s finest.. its recognisable by its stately pointed Aragonese tower built between 15th and 16th century. Loved the star-studded vault in the presbytery, with a simple but elegant altar and cloister. Close to shops and eateries.

One of a couple very beautiful churches in Alghero, all built in a dominant Spanish style. Great architecture.

If you are in Alghero, I would suggest a visit to this beautiful church and cloister as soon as you arrive. It is right in the city centre, a a very interesting historical building, built during the 14th century in Gothic-Catalan style. The friars are always very welcoming. There is also a small hotel right next door, with rooms facing the cloister. Just remember to book in advance, as it is the perfect place to choose if you spend at least one night - and you should - in Alghero.
