The Romance in Sardinia
Aug 2019
actually yes, I'd say this place is the most romantic spot in whole Sardinia.. the citadel, fortification is amazing spot, pretty hard walk to get up to the top. but what a view from there.. you can find a plenty of restaurants and bars on the way up.. which was amazing as all of them were serving Italian food. btw Sardinian people are just amazing hosts,, highly recommended.. nice landscape also from the top, even from the marina down there, when you can see the whole thing/citadel. plus small fee once you want to enter the history museum on the top..

The most unfriendly town ever visited.
Sep 2019
Beside the fact that there is not much to see, outside of a castle that is better to be seen from afar ( not worth paying any entry fee) , Castelsardo is by far the most unfriendly place EVER visited.
People are generally mean and all they want is your Euros.
If they hear you speak English ( they are allergic to it ) they would love to spit at your face and throw you out of town if they could.

The views are spectacular and the steep climb a good precursor to lunch
May 2019
Translated literally as Sardinian castle, this citadel, spectacularly perched on a rocky outcrop, started life in the 12th Century as a Genoese cliff city, then became Castel Aragonese in the 14th century under the Spanish and finally as its current name in the 18th Century. Be prepared for a steep climb up the stairs and lanes of the medieval old city that rewards with magnificent views from the top of the castle. Inside there is a museum dedicated to straw-weaving for which the town is famous .

Nice castle, charming town!

Nice castle with great view over a small busy charming town and the sea. Exhibitions of different crafts and weapons in the castle. Many nice places to eat in the town.

Spectacular view worth more than the entrance fee
Jun 2019 • Family
Inside the citadel, there is a small museum with plenty of local artifacts from ancient times. The entrance fee is absolutely ok; if you are a family or group of more than 4 persons, take the family ticket for 16 €. The view from the citadel around the bay in both western and eastern direction is stunning.

Not much to the Citadel but what a view!
Jun 2019 • Family
Castelsardo is an incredible survivor - a rocky prominent jutting into the sea with a 16th century town clinging right round its skirts - the most interesting streets are undoubtedly on the seaward side, but start by climbing to the Citadel and paying a small fee to get inside and scale its towers. Here is the 360° view out to Corsica and across to the furthest beaches North and West. There are displays too (if basket-weaving is your thing, although the uses the baskets are put to are ingenious, and there is a constantly-changing temporary exhibition - currently Goya cartoons) but once you've spied the cramped, cobbled streets, ancient campanile and venerable cathedral below you'll want to head down into those charming, time-worn streets with gorgeous eateries, little artisan shops and sea views.

Beautiful scenic walk
Apr 2019 • Family
We drove from Alghero to look at the castle and enjoyed following the walkway. There are lots of steps but you are rewarded with stunning views. We stopped for an ice cream at the top and breathed in the scenery.

Great views
Aug 2018 • Couples
It's worth the walk up to the top of the Citadel just for the views alone. There's a small museum, which we didn't visit, and a selection of cafes and restaurants, some with outside tables offering views across the bays.

Superb views
Sep 2018 • Couples
Quite a climb but well worth it as the 'eagles eye' view of the coast and town is stunning! A wealth of history and amazing how people managed to build a structure of this magnitude at such an height - wouldn't have wanted to be the one transporting the stone blocks up the hill! The commanding view is the main attraction although the basket museum is interesting. The surrounding town is nice place to wander around and obtain a coffee.
