Lovely cathedral
Jun 2019 • Couples
This is a short walk from the castle and it a bit tucked away but the interior is very impressive and there is a crypt too. It is light and airy inside and the main chapels are lovely.

Worth visiting for the floor mosaics and chapel ceiling painting!
Sep 2018 • Couples
I loved the original floor mosaics which are in excellent condition. There is also a chapel on the right-hand side of the main altar that is worth looking at. The ceiling painting is incredible, and the walls and altar in that chapel are ornate.

Very interesting architecture
Apr 2018 • Friends
Not as impressive as some of the Italian Duomo scattered throughout this magnificent country - but nevertheless one can only be struck by both the architecture and the historical Mosaics obviously unearthed. The cathedral should be visited when in Taranto and also a good place for reflection.

Filled with centuries of history
Apr 2018 • Business
The church is very old and built with pieces of even older ancient construction parts. Colums from old temples are pillars of the main hall, all in different colour and material. The mosaic covering walls are with thousands of small pieces of different stones. Large fresco in the roof are very detailed.

See it if you are in town but not worth a detour from elsewhere
Jan 2018
The cathedral of San Cataldo is located in the center of the atmospheric but decrepit Old City. The exterior is baroque, but the interior reflects its Romanesque origins in the late llth century. The nave and aisles are separated by what must be ancient Roman marble column shafts that carry capitals of various origins and eras. The most unusual attraction is the floor, or rather, those parts of the Romanesque floor mosaic that survive. The images show animals, designs, and other subjects. This is a remnant of what there is much more of in the cathedral of Otranto. In Taranto, you can visit the llth century crypt, held on fragments of ancient Roman marble column shafts, and the lavishly decorated chapel in a late baroque style. It is absolutely worth visiting if you are in the city, but you needn't travel from farther away to visit this building. The archaeological museum is the must-see in Taranto, but surely you will have time to stroll over to the cathedral, too, over a short bridge to the Old City.

Ornate Intricate Marble Craftmenship
Jan 2018 • Couples
We have visited sooooo many churches during our years in Europe. Nevertheless, the side back chapel on the right side is a rare experience. The intricate designs with outstandingly colorful marbles is unique and absolutely worthwhile to observe. If you are anywhere near Taranto, be certain to stop for a few minutes to see it. The crypt is mostly empty, but has a few things to see.

A must see in Taranto
Sep 2017 • Solo
Small but beautiful chapel and the paintings in the Internal Duomo are a beauty. An attraction you can't leave Taranto without visiting.
