The Cattedrale di San Sabino built on 12 century on ruins of a first Imperial Byzantine cathedral destroyed in the 11 century, now it's an archeological site to visit; splendid mosaics.

Very impressive place. Although not too much interested in archeological places this place has really impressed me a lot. Very recommended. Entrance fee is 3 Euro now.

One of the most simplest Cattedrales I have ever seen- really example of the Romanove's style - very very simple everywhere- but maybe that " simple" style is giving this place so great view!!!

Below the cathedral recent work brought up a series of surprises: what used to be the foundations of the church above are really tombs, an older church and many other surprises. Well kept and beautifully restored. Modest entry fee (1 €) and totally accessible on...More

It is fascinating to see the remains from earlier periods that have been uncovered under the cathedral.

We were on our way out of the crypt when we saw the entry. We almost didn't go in. That would have been a huge mistake. The excavations and archeological remains under the cathedral are astounding. It really pushes home just how old the site...More
