One can easily miss the whole thing, since the arch is pretty, but do not stands out too much, and you have to get close to notice the whale bone hanging from it. Very interesting site, some sort of a quirky story.

A Beautiful arch that everyone looks up at a whale bone hanging from the arch. I don't know the significance of the bone hanging from the arch but people come to see it.

This was just another arch but is was just as picturesque as most of the others. You probably all pass by this place so ti is worth while a look at.

This monumental arch provides an entrance to Piazza dei Signori coming from Piazza del Erbe. I never would have noticed the whale bone hanging from the arch if I hadn't read about this detail. It appears to be a rib and has been suspended there...More

I was told it's an artifact brought back by Crusaders in Medieval time. It's some kind of whale bone. It's very easy to miss because it's high up on the gate.

There are more attractive archways in Verona. This one separates the two piazzas and is next to the museum / art gallery. I wouldn't make a special trip to see this, but if you're in Verona anyway, you'll probably be going to Piazza Erbe, and...More

A whale rib bone hanging from the archway high above the street. Worth a look if you are in the area.

Legend has it that the whale bone will fall on the head of the first person to walk through who has never told a lie...maybe that's why Pinocchio is so symbolic here?! Verona does love a good story, and that's all the archway really is,...More
