We were really looking forward to going to St. Patalon and seeing Vivarini's Coronation of the Virgin. It is a veritable who's who of the saint world. Unfortunately it was out on loan to an exhibition at the Accademia so we missed it. They have a nice crucifix there. It looks pretty early. We asked the attendant who it was... More

Don't miss the unbelievable ceiling painting on the inside of this church! We learned on a Venice Free Tours that all the money needed to finish the front of the church went to the painting on the inside. You are not allowed to take pictures but can purchase post cards. Be ready to keep your neck back to see what... More

Loved the frescoes by Longhi that are in a tucked away chapel. The ceiling was really incredible but was a story not known to us.

The Ceiling Painting is Extraordinary. I walked all the way from the San Lucia Train Station to see San Pantalon. It was worth it.

When we went in we thought it would be same as other churches. The frescos that cover the entire ceiling is darker then others but very beautiful.

A very unassuming outside facade but boy does the ceiling inside make up for it. It is the most stunningly beautiful work of art and a 'must visit' whilst in Venice. Do not miss!

The ceiling is spectacular. You will need coins to light it. The person inside will have coins. Be aware you can not take photos!!! They watch you like a hawk for it.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
