Loved walking around to Dorsoduro far from the maddening crowds. Plenty of art galleries and other spaces to duck into.

A stones throw from San Marco but completely different feel. Narrow streets and canals open up into lively vibrant squares with cafes, bars and restaurants. Wind your way through the area getting "lost". Peer into churches, walk with the locals and enjoy a slightly slower...More

The Dorsoduro area doesn't have all the sites of the San Marco area, and certainly I wouldn't suggest that you DON'T visit the San Marco area (as well as other areas of Venice), but it's a great area to stay in, as it's often much...More

We had an airbnb in this area and it was a great location. Close to the major attractions but away from the crowds. Loved the small squares throughout the area.

Dorsoduro is the real authentic Venise, where locals live, it's charming and not much tourists; near the canal many little reataurants and caffes and also museums to visit.

Dorsoduro offers, Venice life off the beaten path. We noticed a lot of young people in the area and then discovered that there are schools and universities located here. Great for photos and, you will find several restaurants to choose from, all good and friendly....More

very venetian but less frenetic. Lovely walks bridges restaurants and shops quite delightful. easy to get to the main areas and the traghetos were easy and plentiful.

Walk over the bridge to search for less known places in Venice. Plenty of restaurants and wine bars to enjoy.

Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with
street artists, students, painters, sculptors,
restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and
heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's
collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for
evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries
cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica
buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob

Fly into Marco Polo Airport, the main airport in Venice. You can take a water bus but for €110 you can get your own private water taxi to Dorsoduro, probably the Academia bridge would be closest. Having travelled on both... More

No need for private taxis, unless you have mobility issues or you have tourist aversion (which makes sense with so many people). It is easy to use the Alilaguna pass for the vaporetti that will take you everywhere for as... More
