This small island is a bit off the usual Venetian path, but it’s worth seeing. Its Santa Maria Assunta church houses impressive mosaics, its bell tower offers great surrounding views—and it’s home to Locanda Cipriani, a well-regarded restaurant and hotel that played host to writing legend Ernest Hemingway .

Apparently this is very nice in the busy summer months. We were there on a drizzly day so it wasn't at its best.

Visited Torcello as part of a Murano, Burano and Torcello Tour. Had about 45 minutes to tour Torcello, which has a few houses, a park, an interesting small church, a museum (which was closed when we visited) and a few small restaurants. Much preferred Burano and the glass factory tour of Murano.

We went to Torcello as part of our visit to the lagoon islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello. Torcello was one of the first lagoon islands to be successively populated by those who fled the mainland to take shelter from recurring barbarian invasions. It was also at one time a very powerful trading centre. Now it is a very quiet... More

The most beautiful island of the Laguna, with great landscapes and small family restaurants. Very glad that we did the tour to get there. Really gorgeous.

I didn't originally plan to visit Torcello however ended up doing so on a whim since I had time to spare on the way back from Burano. I'm glad I did! The walk way from the waterbus stop to the mainland is around 10 minutes and as snow had just fell the day before or so, this whole area Was... More

Torcello is one of those places that has seen its best days. You have the feeling that it was once magnificent but is now kind of forgotten. The main attraction is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, which is so historic. There is a small tourism industry of restaurants but after that it is pretty quiet

Take a boat to Burano then another short ride to the island of Torcello. Walk up the brick paved footpath and find a museum , a circular church, and a wonderful cathedral with fantastic mosaics inside, then have lunch -unforgettable !

Nice little walk, interesting place to visit. A couple of really good restaurants are located here along with some great photo shots. Don't forget to visit the church, despite an entry fee.

Catch a ferry from Burano to reach Torcello. Sometimes waiting takes time. The top place of interest her is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Torcello is green...trees and plant anywhere..of course canals too. Read the history of Torcello before you visit. Was once an important trading centre but ended due to the malaria situation. Very few inhabitants here. It... More
