We (my friends and I) love everything about my trip to Venice. This lagoon is full of life, and full of beauty. Make sure to gaze out onto the blue and everything next to it, for as long as you can. It is worth taking...More

Take one of the many affordable water taxis to the outer islands like Burano & Murano. See the fishing villages & glass making factories. Real Venetians live here & they run some good restaurants & shops. Alternatively, think about taking a water taxi to/from the...More

The lagoon is a mesmerizing place, and its history fascinating. The local people were driven further and further from solid land into the marshes and ended having to build this city on piles driven into the marshes. Their misfortune proved the worlds gain as Venice...More

While he Canal is the star, the Laguna is a well represented second act. Great views of Venice from this vantage point. We used the Vaporetto to get his vantage point, saving a lot of money hiring a boat.

Lido is one of the islands in the laguna. If the weather is nice you can even go there and swim in the water. This part of Venice is more modern and looks more like a resort complex.

I buy a vaporetto pass each time I'm in Venice not only to get from place to place but simply because I love the sea, the canals, and all water. It is so relaxing to take a vaporetto on the Grand Canal or on the...More

The lagoon is the supporting waterway on the other side of th sea. It is a lovely haven for wildlife and also the excellent seafood that you find in Venice.

If you are staying 3 days or more in Venice, you should visit the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. I wouldn’t say that any of these 3 islands is unmissable but it’s the variety of these 3 that makes a nice trip (7/8 hours...More

San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one
of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza
San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica,
clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops,
orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand
pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring
campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower,
plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and

I think the master glass blowing demonstration in one of the factory on the island of Murano is free. But you need to check the time when demonstration is given to the public.
