The area
Neighbourhood: Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Great Find
Jun 2019 • Couples
This small cafe bar is wonderful with amazing reasonably priced drinks particularly when compared to the rest of Venice. The owner/manager chap was very nice and made us most welcome so we gave them some business almost every day as we wandered around. Recommended.

Perfect spot for a break
Feb 2018 • Couples
Having been round a number of the churches and museums we were heading back to to town for some sustenance and a seat.
None of the places we passed fitted the bill and as we reached the Salus and I approached the window menu, the door opened and a guy appeared.
Fully expecting the hard sell, I was prepared to walk away but he simply passed comment about the poor weather. Pleasantries were exchanged and realising he was running the bar, checked if he was willing to serve coffee alone and when he immediately confirmed there was no need to purchase meals, we decided to stop there and then.
We settled on 2 coffee’s and a couple of croissants, one plain and one filled.
The hot croissants were delicious and the coffee excellent. Total cost of €10 was very reasonable and bearing mind there was no dreaded couvert charge or obligatory ‘service’ charge, was excellent value fo money.

Had a coffee here

This is on a corner if you are wandering around Venice, I stopped for a coffee and an opportunity to rest my legs in the sunshine. The coffee was good, the sunshine was warm, the people watching was excellent!

Their Mules have got a kick!
Jul 2017 • Friends
We (three of the finest bald men ever to walk the Dolomites) were very tipsy when we (literally) stumbled across this cool corner-side bar. It was late and the very friendly and helpful waiter recommended a bottle of chilled Venetian red (how very different) on what was a very warm night. We, the three, guzzled that down and we're looking for something a bit 'whatever'. The waiter recommended a Venetian mule. We queried how his Mules differed from the ones offered by Muscovites and he mentioned chilli and something else. Anyway, we ordered three and loved them. Taking into account the ginger beer they were still quite spicy. That said, we liked them.
Cool bar. Cool staff. We'd go again.

Cheap lunch, not authentic or very good
Jun 2017 • Couples
We ordered pizza, peroni, melon and prosciutto and rigatoni. Nothing felt or tasted authentic. Not a fan of giving bad reviews, but come on... pizza sauce wasn't even good... this is italy!!!

Great value and service
May 2017
Stopped for a quick lunch. Situated on a corner of a square and great sitting outside and people watching. Excellent Pizza and Mozzarella and salad paninni with half litre of wine and a large beer only 23 euros.

Cheap and Good Food Just what we needed!
Apr 2017 • Family
We were looking to grab something quick and cheap to eat for lunch and we found ourselves at Bar Salus!

They had a wide seletion of Italian and Western food, all very cheaply priced. The staff were very friendly and the food quality was great!

100% recomend for a cheap eat in Venice!

More Than Just a Bar
Sep 2016 • Couples
Roamed ALL Over Venice and really needed to eat. My body was telling me I needed greens so I kept looking at menus for their salads. I finally found a tuna salad (8E) at Bar Salus that looked good. And I was right. We sat outside and had a wonderful lunch. I was surprised to see TA rates Bar Salus as a bar/nightclub when their food is good enough to be restaurant fare. Hubby had the tuna panino (4E). Food was very good and the beer (medium 5E) was cold. We enjoyed watching the people go by. Would definitely return.

Best drink "Italian mule"

Unbelievable drink refreshing and not to strong where it ruins your day by dropping for 2 or 3 :/. One of the best drinks I've ever had for a hot day!
