This church has an elegant façade which continues into the light-filled interior. The neighborhood and the church itself are not too crowded, so the airy interior provides a peaceful respite from the tourists. The artwork was nice as well.

This is Tinteretto's parish church and where he is buried. It probably isn't the best place to see his amazing paintings (try the Accademia and S Georgio Maggiore) but his Presentation of the Virgin is wonderful. And you can find lovely bars round the corrner

We are staying this side of Venice, Cannaregio, and passed this church several times. Today we stopped in. They have a small fee to enter, but it is well worth it. The famous painter Tintoretto is buried here and some of his epic paintings are...More

Sadly, 25 years ago a magnificent artwork by Bellini was stolen from this church. The style is great although the interior is a bit dark. The 3 euros entrance fee will contribute to the maintenance of the church. The calm courtyard next door is a...More

Madonna dell´Orto lies completely hidden in the north of Cannaregio. It is also rightly called "Tintoretto church", because the famous painter (1518-1594) lived here near it, adorning it with some of his finest works and was eventually buried in it. Two big paintings from Tintoretto...More

If you have even a vague interest in art, this church, packed with Tintoretto as it is, is a must. The two huge scenes on either side of the altar are worth the trip alone.

This church contains some extraordinary Tintoretto canvases as well as his tomb. Sadly a Bellini Madonna & Child was stolen from this church and has never been recovered.

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying

for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
