Tommaso was great! He met us exactly where and when he said he would. The boat was very comfortable. He even had blankets for us since it was in October and windy. Originally we thought that he was going to take us up and down Grand Canal, but it was better than that, we got to see other islands from... More

We took the Lagoon tour at the end of June 2016. Although it was hot, it was lovely and breezy on the boat, especially in the morning. Tommaso made Venetian history come alive for our 2 teenage sons (aged 15 &13) and we could almost picture the scenes from Jan Morris' "Venice". We all agreed this was the highlight of... More

We did the sunset tour at the beginning of November. My only wish was that they had mulled wine instead of prosecco. However, the tour itself was fantastic. Our guide was very local, had a lot of good information and a great view on life in Venice. I personally also really liked the boat, very comfortable, great perch for me... More

On a cold, windy, overcast day in November, Tomas took me and my 2 photographer friends to "Ghost Island," an uninhabited, overgrown island where plague patients went to die. It's not for the faint of heart or for those looking for shops and restaurants. But for 3 adventurous, somewhat crazy photographers, it was perfect. Tomas was a fantastic guide! And... More

My wife and I booked a tour with Tommaso in November 2016. The boat was an authentic hand-crafted Venetian Boat made in Burano by the shipbuilder. We took a nice slow paced tour from the stop in Ospedale to Murano where we asked Tommaso to stop so we could purchase some glass products. Next we proceeded to Torcello and visited... More

This was definitely a unique experience and had not a trace of tourist bling to it, thank goodness!. Tomasso was knowledable about his boat, the water and the sights we were seeing. And when we said we wanted to go to a deserted island to photograph, that's what we got. I loved it!

What a fantastic day. Booked as a surprise birthday trip Tommaso was the first to wish me happy birthday. He was friendly, knowledgeable and created the perfect day. We enjoyed the sunshine, sipping prosecco whilst listening to the history and culture of Venice and the outlying islands. Tommaso took the time to make us feel very welcome and overall this... More

What a day! We arrived at the boat launch Opedale not entirely sure what the day would be. What an amazing day we had. Tomasso is a Venetian with a wealth of history(masters degree)and knowledge. His boat is authentic and he is the loveliest person. We traveled along waterways beyond mainstream Venice. Tomasso is so warm and kind. He is... More

Tommaso was a fountain of local knowledge sharing interesting historical and present day information along with knowledge of the local flora and fauna. He was an engaging, interesting, funny, and accommodating tour guide with extensive knowledge of boating that made our 6 hour cruise through the islands safe, fun and a great day in the Venice area! This was my... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
