About
This landmark bar in Venice has been around since the 1930s and has seen the likes of celebrities such Ernst Hemingway and Charlie Chaplin. It's known as the birthplace of the Bellini cocktail, so don't miss the chance to try it out, along with their famous carparccio. The dry martini is also a favorite. With its storied history, it's a good idea to have a chat with the friendly bartenders to learn more. For dinner, try some delicious Venetian specialties like the creamed cod. This spot can get pretty crowded, so it’s best to get there early. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

    Give it a miss
It was ok. Overpriced and trading on its reputation alone I would say. Offered small chicken sandwiches to go with our drinks, unclear if this was chargeable or not. Unfortunately we did not just get chicken sandwiches we also got an unpleasant fish and egg mix, this did make for an amusing moment for which we paid an extra 3 euros. The Bellinis were nice but special and not worth 22 euros each. I know you are paying for the experience but all things considered I wouldn’t recommend Harry’s

    I'd skip it
We went as we told it's a must to go to Harry's for Bellini. It was a very underwhelming experience. Paid through the roof for tiny drinks. My husband had a different cocktail to a Bellini and it was little more than a shot of gin for €25. The Bellini's are €22.

Disappointing Experience: Overpriced Drinks and Poor Service at Harry's Bar
Our visit to Harry's Bar was a complete letdown. We were enticed by the notion of trying their supposedly legendary Bellini, but the steep price of €22 left us feeling cheated. To make matters worse, the service was horrendous. We were forced to stand uncomfortably by the counter, struggling to enjoy our drinks amidst the cramped space. The waitstaff seemed disinterested, and we had to endure the constant commotion of waiters clumsily colliding with trays. Overall, I cannot stress enough how much I would advise against visiting this place. The exorbitant prices, lackluster drinks, and poor service make it a regrettable experience that is best avoided.

    First stop on arrival day!
If you haven’t visited Harry’s, did you really go to Venice? It was our first stop after dropping our bags at The St Regis, and really set the tone for our trip. Jet lagged and rumpled though we were, we were seated at our requested corner table in the back, between two tables of well dressed, well established Venetians who were obviously regulars. We had a Bellini and perused the menu, observing the many varied dishes our neighbors were served, but sadly we only had an appetite for something light, so I had the baby artichokes which were delicious, light and refreshing and hit the spot! After a lovely, relaxing lunch, we were asked to please return when we had more of an appetite! And we shall! 🥂

    Bucket List Disappointment
It was on the bucket list so we finally went on our tenth visit to Venice. We have had excellent Bellini's and the absolute best is at the Excelsior in Sorrento. Harry's may be the original but it is not the best. In fact it is rather disappointing, and expensive. we did not stay for dinner so we can't comment on the food. But based on our lackluster experience in the bar, we will be going elsewhere on our next visit.

    Caprianis at its worst
The name is iconic but that’s where it ends. Came here with high hopes for an elegant, gourmet dinner and left disappointed. Place was packed, air conditioning non existent. Rooms were dark with uninspired decor. Food was average and not proportionally priced to the experience. (Ie. Paid 50 euro for prosciutto with melon). Only saving grace was The service was good. Don’t waste your time here with so many better restaurants in Venice

    Classy and tiny
An expensive must do. Tiny, intimate, classy surroundings for the world’s first? bellini. Love this place and the professional staff. Food is average. Stick with cocktails. No beer avaiable, I think.

Last Minute Unpleasant Surprise About the Tip
We were staying at the Marriott across the street and saw that the place had 4 Starts so decided to try it out on our last dinner in Rome. Unfortunately, the food was just ok, nothing to remember for sure. Then the unpleasant surprise: There was no cover charge on the bill and after paying with our credit card, the waiter came back and said that the tip had to be in cash. That was the first time during our two weeks in Italy that a restaurant did that and for that reason alone I would recommend people stay away from this place. The service was very good and I had cash on me so I was able to leave a tip (I have no problem tipping) but this was completely out of the norm for Italy. Thumbs down for this last minute unpleasant surprise.

Bad service, very slow at preparing our food
We waited one hour for our food. The waiter didn’t even check to see if we wanted more drinks or bread. Our table was ignored. We had to ask twice what’s happening with our food and we were told is because the risotto takes longer. The food was very delicious but it took too long to be prepared and this completely ruined our mood. We were compensated with a meringue cake which was very disappointing. There is too much hype about Cipriani’s chain. The prices are extremely high for a pasta. There isn’t anything on their menu below 40 Euros of their pasta and risotto menu. A bottle of water is 10 Euros. Service is bad and even though they gave us a discount I would never recommend this restaurant. Overall very overrated.

Old time restaurant that's living on its old reputation
I hadn't been there in years. The restaurant was filled. Tables are very close together. No air conditioning, only small fans on the wall near the ceiling. Very hot for the middle of September. Our first look at the menu and we were in shock. We ordered a tiny Bellini for 22 euros. It was delicious. Then we ordered carpaccio as our main dish. It was very good. 65 euros each. We asked for Red wine but the head waiter was so busy he told us to get a carafe instead of a bottle. This restaurant hasn't changed at all, except for the prices.

I was quite excited to try Harry’s bar. What a huge disappointment. The miserable female at the entrance to the bar…she couldn’t have been less interested! Didn’t speak to us, we stood for some time until we thought we best ask where we could sit.
The bar staff were just so miserable and brusk. Such a shame as it could be such a gem of a place. I think perhaps they’re too busy and therefore not interested.
Don’t go! They are far more friendlier, more welcoming and far cheaper places to drink in Venice. It cost 40 euros for two Bellinis which were not that great. In fact they were pretty dreadful. We couldn’t wait to leave.
Really sorry to put such a scathing review, but I think they could do with reading the negative reviews and change their awful attitude.
Kate Manchester.

The food was amazing! My family of 8 had a wonderful time until we were interrupted by an older group of people who said " we took our table" We were totally shocked as this man and his friends screaming at us until the manager came up to us and said it was his fault. We had similar last names so it sounded the same for the manager. We were then moved up stairs while we were mid dinner. I personally feel that it was a terrible experience to end our last night in Venice. Honestly felt very upset about the way the restaurant handled things. Would have liked it to be handled in an appropriate manner.

Always wanted to have a Bellini in Harry's Bar. The drink itself was fine but the bar lacked atmosphere and the staff were not as friendly as elsewhere. Over priced and over rated.

Cappucino was cold, also they use poor quality alcohols for cocktails which shouldn't be the case in this type of establishment.

Had heard about Harry’s bar because Ernest Hemingway & Charlie Chaplin used to swig a beer there. Fifty Euros for a Bloody Mary & an old fashioned, not only this but the glasses were barely bigger than shot glasses. Tiny little bar the size of a porta cabin & the tables have been crammed in so you can barely move. The staff wouldn’t even look at you & it had an awkward atmosphere. I’d go back to Venice in a heartbeat but Harry’s bar will be avoided.

This bar is one of the most famous watering holes in Europe; Harry's Bar been an extraordinary bar that has attracted successful American authors such as Truman Capote and Ernest Hemingway. Harry's Bar has an outstanding menu. This Venetian bar serves Italian specialties such as carpaccio, which is thin sliced raw beef. Harry's success in attracting local and international VIPs has been recognized by the Italian government. Harry's Bar is not all that large but it's worth getting a drink there or having a meal.

25 dollars is a lot to pay for a single drink. Even if you only hang out in the super luxe bars of New York and the Côte d’Azur I hope that all reasonable people can agree that 25 dollars…. for …. one… drink…. Is a lot.

I am prepared to pay 25 dollars for a drink. Occasionally only, to be clear, for fear of penury. I prefer paying 6 dollars. But yes I am prepared to pay 25 dollars in the right circumstances. In return, I am expecting a great drink, excellent service, a fine and weighty glass, beautiful surroundings and perhaps some history.

So Dukes in London, The Writers Bar in Singapore, the beautiful Charles H in Seoul. They tick all of these boxes. I love them all. And I am happy to pay for the privilege.

I have been to Venice a fair bit and never been tempted to visit Harry’s Bar. Word was it did not justify these kinds of costs. Hemingway may have liked it just after the war, but the world has moved on since then. It was now just a tourist trap for the foolish and unwary.

In a moment of weakness this week, on my way to dinner, walking past the door to Harry’s I succumbed. How bad could it be I thought to myself? It seems busy. The people in there didn’t all look like tourists; perhaps I had this wrong….

That moment of weakness was a mistake.

This was apocalyptically bad.

52 dollars for two gin and tonics…. Deep breath … Gin. And. Tonic. Not some labour intensive, crushed artisan cocktail involving obscure aromatics and the knees of virgins…. But a gin and tonic. Not a choice of gins either.

And I had to pour the tonic myself. Out of a can. That I had to open. Into …. What… not some chunky lead crystal glass that made me feel like a Bond villain….but rather the kind of dishwasher safe glasses petrol stations used to give away for free. In a room badly in need of a lick of paint, with all the decorative flair of a Warsaw Pact youth hostel (what is this colour?), tables jammed in like pins in a bowling alley - and guests bounced around nearly as much. And service as ice cool as … well I don’t know … but a smile from the staff required something more from me clearly.

These are not so much first world problems as super first world problems. But we all get to choose how to spend our money. And my strong, strong recommendation is not to spend your money (or anyone else’s) in Harry’s Bar.

I love visiting legendary establishments and have no qualms about paying over the odds for good food or drink. BUT I don’t like being ripped off. 24Euros for a whiskey sour that was smaller than a breakfast juice glass. Wanted to stop in for a cool refreshing drink but this experience barely wet my lips. Get a grip Harry’s Bar and stop ripping people off.

We came here expecting the counterpart of Harry’s Bar in Paris and were sorely disappointed. I’m sure there’s some important/historical meaning behind this bar and the Bellini’s they kept serving but that’s not what we were here for. The ambiance was flat, there was no music, the tables were low, it was overcrowded and ridiculously overpriced. The average drink price was €24 when you can get cocktails in any bar for 1/4 of the price. Not to mention, the drink was the size of a sippy cup. Again, I’m sure there’s a reason many people come to this bar, but if you’re looking for the Venetian Harry’s from Paris or just to have an apperitivo before dinner, I wouldn’t recommend coming here.

Popped in for a Bellini just to experience it as was told it’s a must do place. It was incredibly busy (but it was a Saturday afternoon) but managed to get a table fairly quickly. Had a Bellini each and left. It was a nice Bellini but as mentioned by many it was very pricey. As it was a special occasion we just accepted it. It was crowded but there are a lot of staff so food and drinks arrive very quickly. Was it as special as I thought it would be? No.
